Working as a member of a shift team, the primary role of an Wet Waste Operator is to demonstrate ownership and responsibility for a set of machines, pieces of equipment and/ or processes within their working area. This includes carrying out the routine operational tasks required to achieve area targets e.g. starting-up, shutting-down, monitoring, cleaning, and carrying out basic changeovers, minor repairs, routine checks and inspections, and the use of basic ancillary equipment and computer programs.

Operate wet waste machine efficiently, ensuring maximum recycling of wet waste. Ensure wet waste process is under control in terms of Safety, Quality, Speed and GMP. Perform and record quality tests.

What are we looking for?

  • Matric/ABET equivalent REALL
  • Previous relevant industry experience advantageous (opt. knowledge of feed / food industry)
  • Able to communicate effectively in English (Reading, writing and speaking)
  • Knowledge of Lean: 5 Why & Go See
  • Must be willing to work irregular hours and extended shift if necessary
  • Safety & Hygiene & Quality conscious, Initiative, Self-motivated, Team player.
  • Forklift License

What will be your key responsibilities?

SAFETY & ENVIRONMENT

  • All PPE must be worn in compliance with the legal/RC requirements
  • Enforce/Respect the safety rules and the internal policy
  • Stop any equipment / operative works / external company works if safety/environment protection/fire protection rules are broken
  • Guarantee and apply OHSAS 18001 and all related working procedures
  • Compliance with Occupational Safety and Environmental Requirements - Mars Standards
  • Guarantee and apply ISO 14001 (Environment), and all related working procedures
  • Ownership of environmental responsibilities
  • Comply with all safety requirements and manage risk of dust explosion through ensuring areas of work are kept clean, leaks are reported and fixed

QUALITY & FOOD SAFETY

  • Perform and record quality control tests. Support kibble quality in extrusion through effective communication with the extruder operator when starting and stopping wet waste. When deviations in quality are experienced, use trouble shooting guide to correct and record quantity affected through the NCR procedure.
  • Compliance with Quality and Food Safety Requirements - Mars Standards
  • Guarantee and apply ISO 9001, 22000, Mars Standards, and all related working procedures
  • Support the HACCP program in the department
  • Follow GMP-GHP in the area
  • Maintain and perform the CCP and oPRPs procedure according to SOPs in the extrusion area
  • Sampling of products to ensure quality control
  • Report any pest activity to related Manager.

LINE OPERATION & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform wet waste start up & shutdown sequence processes
  • Operate wet waste according to approved parameters. When deviations are experienced, use the troubleshooting guide to correct, and escalate according to escalation procedure.
  • Control and maintain a constant supply of prepared soup to extrusion based on requirement from extrusion
  • Ensure batch preparation is done according to procedure and adheres to standard batch preparation time
  • Perform a daily line tour of wet waste area and report all deviations found.
  • Perform area-related equipment first line maintenance.
  • Ensure the continuous and consistent improvement of the KPIs related to Occupational Safety, Environment, Quality, Productivity, Costs, Production Planning, ATS (Attendance to Schedule), NQC (Non-Quality Costs) specifically for grinding.
  • Tracking, monitoring and recording of planned and unplanned downtime, waste, quality deviations and variation to plan in the extrusion sections, through RCLMS and shift books.
  • Perform inventory of raw ingredients / packaging materials / finished products in bins, silos and racks (cyclical and period end inventories)
  • Collect samples for quality control
  • Ensure accurate application of food safety and sanitation practices with respect to clean bins and meal standing longer than 3hrs
  • Participate and adhere to all requirements of food safety, quality management system, and website security programs ensuring that all standards are met.
  • Participate and adhere to all requirements from MSE
  • Any task as delegated by Shift Manager

CLEANLINESS & TIDINESS

  • Perform Housekeeping Checks to ensure compliance to 5S
  • Perform operational cleaning operations
  • Change over cleaning
  • Weekly cleaning & Sanitation
  • Long stop cleanings as required

EDUCATION & TRAINING

  • Support multi-skills policy
  • Training: attend any training program as scheduled by company management and train any designed person in the position

COMMUNICATION & INFORMATION

  • Participation in operator-to-operator handover focusing on previous shift performance in terms of safety, quality, service and waste specific to extrusion
  • Participation in CP0 handover meeting for process, providing feedback on previous shift performance and action execution for deviations related to extrusion.
  • Provide any requested documentation to other Departments according to internal rules
  • Complete production reports as required by manager and record any production events (stops, quantity, quality, waste generation, safety cards) in RCLMS and/or shift books
