The IOR ,affiliated with the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI ), is now in a brand-
new high-tech research building with more than 20 research groups and state-of-the-
art labs and facilities. Together with the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB),
the IOR is a member of Bios+ ,a recently established non-profit association aiming to
promote, support, and coordinate its members' scientific research and teaching
activities (www.biosplus.ch). IOR offers a multicultural environment and daily
interaction with world leaders in the fields of cancer, basic immunology, and cancer
immunology.
Since 2019, the Cancer Immunotherapy Lab, headed by Prof. Arianna Calcinotto, has
been located at IOR.
The Calcinotto lab provides a brand-new, fully equipped lab of 90m2 and an
international, stimulating, dynamic, and friendly atmosphere.
SNSF Starting Grant fully funds the position (initial appointment: 2 years -
100%). Salary defined by SNSF salary scale.

Project background
The Calcinotto lab works on dissecting the interactions between tumor cells, the
tissue-specific bacteria, and the tumor-infiltrating immune cells in breast cancer
initiation, progression, and treatment resistance to develop novel effective therapies
for the treatment of hormone-dependent breast cancer patients and prevention in
individuals with germline BRCA mutations .Dr. Calcinotto published more than 20
articles in peer-reviewed journals, such as Nature, Science, Cancer Cell, and Nature
Communications (e.g., Calcinotto et al., Nature, 2018; Calcinotto et al., Nature comm,
2018; Pernigoni et al., Science, 2021; Montopoli et al., Annals of Oncol 2021; Grioni
et al., Blood Adv 2021; Bancaro et al. Cancer Cell 2023).

Job description
This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in
female cancers, working closely with a multidisciplinary and international team of
researchers dedicated to understanding the role of tissue microbiota and immune
responses in breast and ovarian cancer.

Your profile


  • Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related field.

  • Background in cancer genomics and cancer immunology.

  • Extensive experience with RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, and scRNA-seq data analysis.

  • Experience working with large-scale genomics data sets, including
    transcriptomics, genomics, epigenomics, and proteomics data.

  • Strong problem-solving capabilities.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English), with a proven ability
    to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research team.
