The Certification Engineer reports directly to the Head of Airworthiness.

Your role

H55 is looking for experienced Certification Engineer to join our growing team. This role will serve as the key contact to the Airworthiness Authority and will act as the internal Subject Matter Expert  to support the certification programme.

The Certification Engineer will work closely with the design engineering, production, test and operations teams to ensure compliance with the certification basis.  The role requires a high level of understanding of aircraft systems certification, requirements cascade and management, Safety Assessment, system development, and industry-specific certification processes. It is beneficial that the certification engineer has previously held a CVE signatory.

Responsibilities

This position will be responsible for:

  • Key contact with the Regulatory Authority for the Product Certification program.
  • Supporting and establishing compliance strategies – including means/ methods of compliance. 
    • Ensuring the Certification Basis is maintained.
    • Coordinating the CVEs resource and managing their workload
    • Focal for Special Condition, Certification Review items and Certification Specifications
    • Ensure coordination and agreement of the Certification Basis and strategy with the Airworthiness Authority.
  • Coordinate and review/ approve certification-related documents, including: 
    • Certification Plans and Summaries
    • Test Plans and Reports
    • Design and Analysis Reports
    • Requests for Conformity, Statements of Compliance
  • Coordinating and mentoring the Design engineering team to: 
    • Establish certification plans that will support Type Certification. 
    • Identify, manage and cascade requirements from all relevant inputs, with focus on the Certification Basis derived requirements.
    • Participate and guide on the Safety Assessment reviews, ensuring compliance with the relevant Certification regulations.
    • Follow the Product Development process, ensuring appropriate review of  designs, developed solutions, and ensure compliance with the airworthiness standards. 
  • Review of test plans and campaigns, including the review of test article production and conformity, coordinate the witnessing of tests in order to demonstrate compliance. 

Your Profile

This position requires candidate to have or have/be:

  • You must be able to Negotiate and Lead Teams
  • Experience with certification of aircraft (for example, in CS-23, CS-25 or CS-E)
  • High level of knowledge in design standards and verification methods for electrical systems and equipment. 
  • High-level understanding of Industry standards (RTCA/DO-160/ 311/ 178).
  • Knowledge of 2X.1309 analyses and processes, including SAE ARP4761 and SAE ARP4754A. 
  • The ability to challenge traditional assumptions in the application of regulations, guidance material, and engineering specifications. 
  • The ability to review technical schematics, engineering specifications, and engineering drawings. 
  • Proficient in English (spoken and written). 
  • Hold an Advanced Degree in relevant field.
  • Experience 8+ years.

Desired Experience

The ideal candidate for this position will have or be:

  • Experienced in testing including instrumenting, data acquisition, and documenting and analysing results. 
  • Experienced   with industry groups to develop consensus standards.
