In December 2023 Joe Cohen joined the firm to lead the legal innovation strategy and deployment and we are delighted to now be forming our new Advanced Client Solutions (ACS) team. The team will be working with lawyers and business services in all areas to turn Charles Russell Speechlys into one of the most demonstrably forward-thinking law firms in the city by the end of 2025. Once at capacity, the function will be 18 people and will be made up of the following teams.

We are looking for a Lead Solution Developer who will be leading an innovative greenfield project., where you will have the opportunity to affect the technical design at an early stage. You will be passionate about leveraging technology to revolutionise the way legal expertise is delivered and accessed.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a collaborative, forward-thinking environment and is keen on making significant contributions to the legal tech landscape. Reporting directly into Joe Cohen, Director of Advanced Client Solutions, and working closely with our Solution Designer / Product Manager that we are also hiring, you will play a pivotal role in shaping innovative legal tech solutions that enhance our client services worldwide.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead the creation and deployment of advanced legal tech solutions, like detailed reports, expert systems, AI-driven analysis and to package our legal knowledge for wider licensing - think full-stack solutions that touch every aspect of development.
  • Embark on a rewarding journey with us as we establish our inaugural development team from the ground up. You'll have the unique opportunity to select, guide, and mentor a group of skilled developers.
  • Work closely with our legal and business teams to deeply understand their needs, guiding the selection and adoption of the most fitting technologies and frameworks.
  • You will choose the most appropriate technology to deliver functionality in a timely and robust manner. This may include frontend frameworks such as React, Vue or Angular and appropriate backend technologies such as Node or ASPNET.Core.
  • Stay on top of the latest tech and legal tech trends, promoting a culture of adaptability and continuous learning within the wider team.
  • Take the reins on the design collaboration, development, and launch phases of our legal tech projects. From prototyping to piloting to full-scale deployment, you’re leading the charge.
  • Keep an open line of communication with internal stakeholders to ensure tech initiatives sync up with our overarching firm goals.
  • Guarantee all our tech solutions comply with legal, security, and privacy standards, setting high benchmarks for code quality, documentation, and system security.
  • Hire and manage two further developers this year, with the potential for more in the future as we build out our capabilities. You will also have line management responsibilities for the Product Designer.
  • Comply with all relevant legal and regulatory obligations including the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) Standards and Regulations, and Principles.

Person Specification:

  • Proven track record in spearheading software development initiatives and teams, delivering inventive solutions, ideally within a legal or professional services setting. Full-stack experience is a must here.
  • Solid foundation in software development principles, with a knack for picking up new technologies and languages as needed.
  • Exceptional leadership capabilities to build, steer, and mentor high-performance development teams, fostering a culture of trust, growth, and excellence.
  • Keen analytical and strategic thinking abilities, with a passion for translating complex business and legal needs into technological solutions.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, capable of working closely with both technical and non-technical team members.
  • An adaptable and innovative approach to tech, open to exploring and integrating varied technologies for the most effective solutions to intricate legal issues.
  • While not essential, familiarity with the legal industry and its specific challenges would be a plus.
