The U.S. Embassy Bern is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of:

The incumbent is responsible for coordinating U.S. Embassy Bern’s housing pool to ensure U.S. staff have appropriate housing during their tour. In this role, the incumbent manages a variety of responsibilities to effectively comply with regulations and maintain cost-effectiveness.

Those responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Market Research: Tracking the local real estate market and maintaining/updating a database of homes/apartments available for lease that fit Embassy Bern housing pool needs using the set of criteria established according to provided regulations. Gathers information from a variety of sources on new arrivals to assign appropriate housing.
  • Managing the logistics of housing assignments.
  • Advising the Interagency Housing Board on regulatory and technical details of assigning housing.
  • Liaising with the Department of State Overseas Buildings Operations on housing matters and waivers.
  • Chairing the Embassy's make-ready meetings so housing preparations are carefully coordinated to coincide with the arrival and departure of embassy employees.

This coordination role requires excellent management skills and constant communication and coordination with several offices within the U.S. Embassy, as well as with incoming and outgoing embassy staff occupying the residences. The incumbent also develops strong working relationships with landlords and/or their respective agents and management companies to maintain a continuing dialogue for leasing activities and a successful housing program.

This position is located in the Management Section, the Embassy’s largest section, and reports to the General Services Officer. The workweek is 40 hours, and the Embassy observes U.S. and Swiss holidays.
