In line with Holcim’s Group Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Strategy, the Area HSE Manager represents the Group standards, systems and processes dedicated to HSE towards the operating companies in the countries/region and monitors their performance when implemented. The Area HSE Manager plays a role of control and audit to ensure improvement plans are defined to boost the overall HSE performance of the Group. 

In addition, you provide Industrial Hygiene expertise to the various stakeholders within the group, contribute towards the overall health strategy and support Industrial Hygiene performance programs and reporting.

The Area HSE Manager is a key liaison between the corporate Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) function and country/region organizations. Your focus is to:

  • Be the first point of contact for the local Head of HSE in country operating companies regarding group standards, systems and processes; regularly connecting with the countries - through visits and calls - and keeping track of the progress the local HSE Improvement Plan in the country

  • Utilize a standardized protocol and methodology to review country progress against intended targets

  • Review incident reporting and investigate in fatalities; support countries in any Critical Incident Investigation for the region and ensure appropriate communication of learnings and that consequence management and action plans are followed up

  • Provide insight, challenge, support and share HSE expertise with the country HSE teams and the Country Leadership Team accountable for delivering the HSE results

  • Deliver training programs (e.g. HSE Audit Group training, Working at Heights, Energy Isolation, RCA etc.) to the Country HSE Heads, who as needed ensure the programs are cascaded to the local Country teams

  • Lead several audits per year outside the supported perimeter

  • Benchmark with other multinationals to maintain a world class HSE program

  • As part of the continuous improvement process, participate in the review Standards, Guidelines and Good Practices.

As Global Industrial Hygiene Manager, your role is also to:

  • Lead the development of risk based Industrial Hygiene programs across the Group and support its implementation

  • Capitalize IH expertise by having a deep knowledge and understanding of the subject and intervene to provide advice on any related questions and issues. Leads the development of health standards, guidelines and good practices

  • Highlight emerging IH risks, develop and deliver training in IH management

  • Provide Industrial Hygiene expertise and support Stakeholder Relations

  • Lead Industrial Hygiene data management; create reports on health KPIs and trend; track implementation of the IH program by countries and ensure quality of IH data in the H&S audit reports

  • Engage with management at Group and Operational level to help ensure IH risks are effectively managed and acted on

  • Advise and help formulate the Health aspects of the Group audit protocols and actively participate in audits

  • Animate, coordinate and promote learning, sharing and professional development of health and safety professionals.


  • A Bachelor of Science degree and Certified Industrial Hygienist or equivalent certification

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) from Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP), Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Chartered Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH) Certified Process Safety Professional (CPSC) or equivalent

  • NEBOSH National or International Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent.


  • 5-10 years of Health & Safety and operational experience in the industry

  • Operational experience in the mining and building materials manufacturing is preferred

  • Previous experience in a global or regional Industrial Hygiene role that has required strong influencing, leadership and change management skills

Knowledge & Skills

  • Ability to partner with country leadership teams and influence senior executives

  • Provide Health, Safety and Environment expertise to support, challenge and share insights with the countries

  • Strong skills in influencing, managing conflicts, communication, networking and change management

  • Analytical skills and ability to report and data manage

Language Requirements

Fluent in written and spoken English. Any other language skill is welcome.
