The University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland includes nine schools with more than 12'500 students. We are looking for you to join the School of The School of Engineering FHNW at the earliest possible date in Windisch, Switzerland:

Your tasks:

In your position you will be working in a research project at the interplay between optimization and distributed feedback control for interconnected power converters. You will address the question of optimal system layout for facilitating decentralized control and optimal operation of a network of power converters with generators, storage devices and loads. You will engage in national research projects within the framework of the NCCR "Automation" (National Center for Competence in Research). This will include exchange with other NCCR researchers at ETH, EPFL and EMPA. The initial contract duration is 2 years, with the possibility of renewal.

Your profile:

Candidates must have a degree in electrical or systems engineering with focus on control systems or optimization, and a strong mathematical background. A PhD in this field is a plus. Additional requirements are: research experience supported by a good publication track record in leading conferences and/or journals, and a minimum of three years of industrial experience in the field of energy or power conversion. Interest in working in an international environment and good communication skills in English are required. Good communication skills in German or the willingness to acquire such skills are desirable.

Note: For candidates without PhD there is the option to combine the research position with a PhD program from another university.
