External Relations Consultant

The External Relations Consultant will play a pivotal role in achieving the team's objectives, focused on raising funding for GARDP and enhancing the professionalism and efficiency of our operations. The Consultant will serve as a "lynchpin" to our operations, helping to ensure effective new donor outreach and relationship management. They will undertake research on existing donors and new funding opportunities, provide support in proposal writing and presentations, act as the team's focal point for information management, and coordinate team meetings and retreats. The Consultant will also oversee the team's workplan and budget, and manage contracts with external contractors.

 

1. Responsibilities 

Donor Research and Pipeline Oversight  

  • Conduct research on existing donors and new funding opportunities and maintain a robust prospect pipeline. 
  • Support proposal writing, presentations, production of programme factsheets. 
  • Ensure donor engagement strategies, profiles, and annual plans are up to date.  
  • Oversight of calendar of donor reporting and disbursements. 
  • Support to ER managers with specific donors, when needed. 

 

Information Management and Coordination 

  • Establish and maintain a structured ER filing system, ensuring consistent and up-to-date usage of Salesforce and SharePoint. 
  • Facilitate effective information sharing and coordination within the team and with other departments. 
  • Document outcomes from meetings and events. 
  • Act as the Focal Person for donor communications and engage with the Communications team to improve funder-related content on the GARDP website. 

 

Team Collaboration and Processes 

  • Support the Director in setting policies and processes. 
  • Oversee the organization of weekly team meetings and retreats, including scheduling, rotating chairing, and meeting outputs follow-up action tracking. 
  • Manage calendar events relevant to donor work and coordinate ER-led donor events with external partners. 
  • Facilitate regular meetings and briefings with permanent missions in Geneva. 

 

Financial, Operational and Donor Governance Oversight 

  • Support the Director on the Donor Partnership Advisory Committee (DPAC) and donor governance  
  • Support the Director with the team workplan and budget coordination. 
  • Manage contracts with external contractors and handle payment processes. 
  • Provide support for additional tasks to help meet team objectives and targets. 

2. Requirements

  • A minimum of three years of experience in donor relations, fundraising, or external affairs within the international development sector. 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with donors and stakeholders. 
  • Experience in data management, CRM systems (Salesforce a huge advantage), and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. 
  • Exceptional organizational abilities with the capacity to manage multiple tasks and priorities. 
  • Knowledge of global health or related fields is advantageous. 
  • Fluency in English is required. Additional fluency in French or German would be advantage. 

3. Location & Term:

  • Location: Geneva, Switzerland (remote)
  • Stat date: Earliest Q2 2024 
  • Work schedule: Flexible with 1-to-2-hour time difference with Geneva, Switzerland; at least 4 working hours each weekday 
  • Time period: 12 months
