IBM Quantum is an industry first initiative with the ultimate goal to build universal quantum computers for business, engineering and science. This effort includes advancing the entire quantum computing technology stack, exploring applications to make quantum broadly usable and accessible, and growing the field of quantum computing. With a worldwide network of Fortune 500 companies, academic institutions, researchers, educators, and enthusiasts, we are not only committed to drive innovation for our clients in the IBM Quantum Network but also to build a diverse, equitable, and inclusive next generation of quantum workforce and a global community of users together with our partners.

At IBM Research Europe in Zurich, we are building an international, diverse, highly skilled and motivated Workforce & Education EMEA Team for educating and supporting the next generation of quantum workforce and community in EMEA. We are looking for an IBM Quantum Community Advocate Intern to strengthen the team.

The intern will have the opportunity to:

  • Learn more about Qiskit (our open-source framework for quantum computing)
  • Develop educational material based on Qiskit
  • Organize events/community activities
  • Collaborate with peers working in the field of quantum computing
  • Get access to state-of-the-art quantum processors and devices at IBM
  • Gain a broad experience in quantum research
  • Expand your network inside and outside IBM Quantum
  • Get exposure to the wide range of research happening at IBM Research

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Chemistry with a focus on quantum computing (for example during internship or master thesis)
  • Deep knowledge of Quantum Computing and its applications
  • Good Qiskit knowledge (ex: you have already run few small projects or contributed to GitHub)
  • Have attended a Qiskit/IBM Quantum events or participated in some programs such as: Qiskit Advocate, IBM Quantum Challenge, Qiskit Global Summer School, etc.
  • Enthusiasm about teaching Quantum Computing and developing educational material
  • Based in Zurich

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, deep learning or a related technical field, including equivalent practical experience
  • Python, PyTorch, Linux, GitHub/Lab
  • Problem-solving mindset: ability to explore technical literature, cross-referencing relevant information, synthesis of novel ML architectures
  • Ways to stand out: hands-on experience with HPC systems and job scheduling, prior encounters with large-scale transformer architectures, especially with positional encodings, etc.
