About the team you are joining

The Cargo Border Management (CBM) team comprises of SME’s dedicated to the safe, secure and efficient flow of cargo across borders, with a particular focus on customs and aviation security procedures, including security requirements and trade facilitation topics. The objective of this team is to work with International Organizations (e.g. WCO, ICAO, UNCTAD, WTO), national Customs and AVSEC regulators to co-develop standards, regulations and guidance that support compliance and smart, efficient and sustainable borders that benefit airline members.

What your day would be like

Reporting to the Head of Cargo Border Management, OSS, the Senior Manager Cargo Security will be responsible for the development and ongoing maintenance of the cargo security and trade facilitation processes and standards to further strengthen and facilitate the air cargo supply chain.

The Senior Manager Cargo Security will lead the IATA Cargo Security Working Group activities, ensuring their alignment with the priorities set by the IATA Cargo Border Management Board. In order to support the cargo border management security & trade facilitation agenda, the Senior Manager Cargo Security will represent IATA Members’ interests and views at international organizations, regional and national regulators’ meetings, and other fora such as the ICAO and WTO, with the responsibility to identify potential impacts to the industry in relation with air cargo security and trade facilitation and to lobby for action to address such impacts.

The Senior Manager Cargo Security will ensure that cargo security related manuals and training are up to date and promote adoption of the IATA cargo border management & security standards globally. The Senior Manager will also actively participate in the development and maintenance of cargo security standards in all relevant IATA publication and programs.

 The Senior Manager Cargo Security will be in charge of coordinating with IATA Operations, Safety & Security Products and IATA Training on the development of commercial products and services related to cargo border management topics such as training, publications, events and strategic partnership program.

Specific responsibilities include:


  • Secretary to the IATA Cargo Security Working Group comprised of senior airline cargo security experts to enhance the security of the air cargo supply chain and bring forward recommendations;

  • Responsible for the development of up-to-date cargo security industry positions and for the coordination of appropriate responses to regulators’ emergency amendments;

  • Represent member airline interests at various international organizations (ICAO, WTO) as well as regional/national border agency regulators’ meetings;

  • Support the implementation of and compliance with aviation security requirements impacting air cargo and assist with the development of associated international recognized standards;

  • Liaise and coordinate with the IATA global security team and the SAC;

  • Responsible for ensuring that cargo security and trade facilitation publications, training, events, customer service and technical support functions operate with the highest degree of accuracy and effectiveness;

  • Support the cargo border management trade facilitation agenda, provide cargo-related expertise and seek out commercial opportunities for security and trade facilitation publications working with regulators, development agencies and private sector partners;

  • In conjunction with IATA colleagues, lobby and propose applicable regulatory changes to facilitate the use of e-solutions for border agencies as an alternative to paper documentation;

  • Animate IATA cargo managers network to ensure that local and regional IATA experts have sufficient air cargo security and trade facilitation expertise to communicate with local regulators and industry representatives;

  • Liaise with other IATA departments and actively participate in the development and maintenance of cargo security standards in all relevant IATA publication and programs.

We would love to hear from you if


  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in air cargo security within an airline, regulatory body, international organization or similar Association

  • Proven influencing and communications skills, including strong public speaking capabilities as well as the ability to generate concise and detailed written reports

  • Ability to define a high-level strategy and to turn that vision into reality by delivering quick results

  • Experience in advocacy with regulators, strong hands-on experience in e-Commerce-based supply chain services 

  • Fluent in written and spoken English
