The Chair of Architecture and Urban Design Prof. Hubert Klumpner, Department of Architecture is looking for an Architect to collaborate as Research Assistant within teaching activities and research projects, starting in June 2024 or by arrangement. This position is initially limited to six months, until 31.12.2024.

Project background

The Chair of Architecture and Urban Design Prof. Hubert Klumpner is based at the ETH Zürich, in Switzerland. The teaching, research and design activities are organized within the framework of investigating and implementing empirically new local and global models of urbanization, proposing possible models, scenarios and relationships that advance our understanding of new forms of urban potential. We harness the resulting creative power to implement changes in the way we live in cities. The Chair operates in close collaboration with the Institute of Science, Technology and Policy (ISTP), and is the regional representative of the UN Habitat University Informal Urbanism Hub.

Job description

You will support the professor, the teaching assistants and research project teams, working closely with project architects, project managers, project-based teaching, partners, and collaborators. You can effectively communicate ideas and translate them into high-end construction plans and graphic design for research publications, addressing diverse stakeholders and project partners.

Your profile

You have a master’s degree in architecture and initial working experience in architectural or graphic design offices, including design development and construction details. Your excellent command of Adobe Creative Suite allows you to produce qualitative visualizations, diagrams, and publications. You are proficient in developing 3D models (Rhino) and AutoCAD renderings. You also have initial experience with scripting to create computer-generated prototypes. In addition, you communicate at a proficiency level in English and German, additional language skills are a plus.

Your strengths include a quick grasp, precise work, and strong abilities in interpersonal relationships in an international environment. You are a resilient, open-minded, and versatile person, able to act in different settings. You have an independent and result-oriented approach and a hands-on mentality. You work responsibly and keep track of interrelated processes and deadlines. Your awareness of existing resources and impact of your work, in addition to your excellent references, makes your application the perfect match for this position. The position is based in Zurich, Switzerland, and a regular office presence is required. Your availability and flexibility to travel for short- and midterm stays abroad is a relevant asset.
