Job Description

We are looking for a junior expert or MSc graduate in process or chemical engineering with skills and interest in areas related to waste treatment and energy systems.

Your Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement unit models for simulations of coupled waste treatment and energy systems.
  • Prepare system model simulations for industrially relevant case studies, and perform techno-economic analysis of such systems.
  • Contribute to collection of information on simulated technologies, related data, and discussions with technology partners.
  • Perform life cycle analysis of waste treatment and energy systems.
  • Contribute to Decisions Support Platform under development at Hitachi Zosen Inova
  • Contribute to internal and external collaboration projects, including university collaborations within and outside Switzerland.
  • Using the analysis results, contribute to and support strategic decisions, as well as specific projects in the technology areas of waste treatment, circular resource management, recycling (in particular plastics, metals and minerals), carbon capture from energy from waste plants, processing of biowaste (e.g. anaerobic digestion, gas upgrading, gas cleaning)

 

Qualifications
  • Degree in Chemical or Process Engineering.
  • Understanding of processes related to the target technologies such as energy from waste plants, biowaste processing, recycling, chemical recycling.
  • Experience with preparation of chemical and process models, including implementation of details of process chemistry. Understanding of underlaying physical and chemical principles and their application. Understanding of modelling and usage of thermo-chemical properties and their applications in such models.
  • Experience with development of kinetic models of such units and processes is highly preferrable.
  • Experience with utilization of configuration/superstructure optimization of waste treatment and energy systems, based on performance, economic and environmental objectives.
  • Understanding or practical skills in application of life cycle analysis.
  • Understanding or practical skills in economic concepts related to chemical and process engineering, such as cost estimation, energy economics, business case evaluation.
  • Experience with process and chemical unit simulation. Knowledge of Modelica simulation language is beneficial, and/or experience with simulation tools such as ASPEN, Ebsilon or equivalent
  • Skills in Python is highly preferrable, and/or other general programming skills. Data science and database related skills are of interest.
  • Interest in proceeding with promising concepts into laboratory testing, pilots or practical implementation phase. Supporting other Research & Development as well as Engineering and Project Development teams towards this goal.
  • Well-structured, systematic and reliable working and documenting style
  • Eager to learn, open-minded, pro-active, with good communication skills. Interest in building and growing industrial and academic networks in the area.
  • Good command of English. Skills in German or French language are beneficial.
