The Scientist is a key member of IPS’ Translational Epidemiology team, conducting high-quality statistical analyses using real-world evidence (RWE) and omics data sources, helping to discover and develop new medicines for patients with serious illnesses.

The ideal candidate will be a hands-on quantitative epidemiologist, statistician, computational biologist or applied mathematician with experience in large-scale healthcare data processing and analysis.

***This is a 2 year Max duration contract***

You will have experience working with a variety of data sources, such as clinical trial data, electronic health record data, insurance claims data, biobank data, research consortium data, and/or omics data.

The ideal candidate will also have a demonstrated ability to actively listen, integrate input from diverse sources, and collaboratively translate medical or business questions into data and analysis requirements and a clear path forward.

This role will be required to maintain a deep understanding of healthcare data, from data generation, collection and integration to its analysis and interpretation. This role will also be empowered to actively improve and innovate in each of those areas.

Overall responsibilities include :


  • Collaborate across the team and the company to make data-based decisions advancing R&D programs

  • Work in a fast-paced multidisciplinary dynamic environment, and as necessary create examples, prototypes, and demonstrations to help less technical colleagues better understand innovative quantitative solutions

  • Represent the Translational Epidemiology group and its capabilities in meetings with nontechnical collaborators

Key competencies, skills, and attributes We’d like you to be able to


  • Apply advanced knowledge of a subset of analytical approaches (ex. statistics, predictive modeling, visual analytics) and the desire to continually learn and grow your analytical skillset

  • Work with structured and possibly unstructured data

  • Handle multiple complex projects and relationships at the same time

  • Engage in effective joint problem-solving to address challenges

Education and Experience Guidelines :


  • Preferred advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Computer Science, Informatics, Mathematics or similar field.

  • Preferred experience (one or more of):

    • Work in the pharmaceutical / biotechnology / healthcare / health IT industry;

    • Hands-on experience executing observational healthcare or translational research studies;

    • Hands-on experience working with large real-world databases (EMR, biobanks, consortium data, etc.).

    • Hands-on experience with, health data-oriented data models and systems, e.g. OMOP and OHDSI

Technical Experience Guidelines:


  • Advanced hands-on knowledge of R, Python, and/or SAS, with bonus points for having worked on software for use by others

  • Experience analyzing integrated data including information from traditional healthcare databases (electronic medical records, claims, etc) and omics data is preferred

  • Experience working in cloud computing environments (AWS, Azure, etc) may be useful – you’ll be working in one once you get here
