The University Library Basel (UB Basel) with its five locations is one of the most important public information centers in the region. With a collection of 6 million printed and 3.5 million electronic media, half a million visitors annually, and its significant historical collection dating back to the 8th century, it is one of the major scientific libraries in Switzerland. At the same time, it serves as the cantonal library of Basel-Stadt and is accessible to the public. In its role as a mediator between science and society, it offers various stakeholders a versatile learning and meeting space.
From 1 March 2026, we are looking for two committed and communicative employees for the new Customer Lab team in the Customer Services department of UB Basel. The goal of the team is the user-friendly and needs-oriented provision and further development of services in the area of customer services. Responsibilities within the team will be assigned according to suitability and interests.
Your tasks
- Design and application of systematic methods to determine user needs as well as evaluation of results to further develop services at all UB locations
- Promotion of continuous training and knowledge transfer in the Customer Services department as well as development and implementation of new, innovative services
- Networking and collaboration with other specialist departments in customer-centered projects as well as with the Communications staff unit to make services visible
- Project management and participation in projects from other areas
- Design and implementation of contemporary training sessions on information literacy
- Planning and execution of information literacy events as well as creation of accompanying communication measures and informational materials
- Participation in the Customer Services team of the UB Main Library
Your profile
- Bachelor's degree in Information Science or equivalent education and experience in customer service and communication or knowledge transfer in libraries or comparable cultural or educational institutions
- Strong communication skills, organizational talent, and initiative
- Didactic skills and convincing presentation competence
- High degree of independence and enthusiasm for innovation
- Solid knowledge of current developments in librarianship
- Very good media and IT skills
- Very good oral and written German and English skills
