Deputy Headof the Legal Service 80 - 100%
The Zurich Public Prosecutor's Office is responsible for prosecuting crimes committed by adults throughout the canton of Zurich. It employs around 500 staff across eight offices and the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. The Legal Service is attached to the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and supports it in legal and coordinative matters. It serves as a central interface between the Public Prosecutor's Office, courts, administration, and other partner institutions. The Legal Service manages the competence center for court jurisdictions as well as the office for official mandates. The main tasks include, besides clarifying jurisdictional questions at the cantonal and federal court level, handling requests for file inspection according to IDG/GOG and drafting opinions.
As of February 1, 2026, or by agreement, we are looking for a Deputy Head of the Legal Service
(80 – 100%).
Your tasks:
- You represent the head of the Legal Service in all professional and organizational matters and ensure proper operation during their absence.
- You handle complex legal issues in the areas of criminal and criminal procedural law as well as internal legal matters and prepare legal opinions, statements, and recommendations.
- You ensure the quality and coherence of the legal work within the Legal Service and actively contribute to the further development and standardization of processes, guidelines, and templates.
- You advise the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and other internal departments on demanding legal and strategic questions and support the preparation of decisions and directives.
- You actively participate in projects and working groups, especially in legally or organizationally relevant initiatives, and take on interface tasks with courts, administrative units, and external partners.
- You support the management in personnel leadership by professionally guiding employees, participating in resource planning, and contributing to the promotion of professional development within the team.
- You take on special assignments on behalf of the management or the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, especially in sensitive or strategically important areas.
Your profile:
- Proven experience in handling extensive and complex criminal investigations as a public prosecutor or in a similar administrative role, as well as very good knowledge of criminal and criminal procedural law.
- Strong strategic thinking and experience in leading, motivating, and developing employees.
- Professional demeanor, diplomatic negotiation skills, assertiveness, and precise verbal expression.
- Very good analytical skills, high independence, and pronounced decision-making competence.
- High integrity, discretion, and resilience.
- Good to very good knowledge of French and English (C1 level); knowledge of Italian is an advantage.
