About the job
Freelancers are in vogue, but how do they work and how are they found? Hiring an individual freelancer temporarily is just as labour-intensive as recruiting a new employee. TEQABLE is the connecting link.
29.11.2018, Martin Petruzzi
Until about half a century ago, Swiss industrial companies developed what they produced themselves. In the mid-1960s, the first service providers began to establish themselves, taking over the technical development for manufacturing companies, or parts of it. Today, this service sector is indispensable. The fact that various service providers now join forces to develop innovations for their customers together is still not widespread and consequently not necessarily understood.
Increasingly, freelancers are involved in technical development projects. But a freelancer is not just an external project employee; they are a company. They cannot exclusively dedicate themselves to project work for their client. They issue invoices, keep accounts, and perform other administrative tasks. However, the most important work for their future is to sell themselves for the next assignment. This work differs in one essential point from all other unproductive activities: it cannot be done in the evening or at weekends. The freelancer can only reach new clients during office hours. That is exactly the time during which they are working on the current client’s project.
At this point, the business model often called the "Collaborative Economy" comes into play. It is about forming a perfectly functioning mix of permanent employees with exactly the right freelance experts into a highly dynamic, motivated team as a service provider – in this case in the field of interdisciplinary engineering. This frees the freelancer during project work and ensures future employment. The benefit for the client is obvious.
As modern as the concept of not binding oneself to a single employer is, freelancers very much like working in a team, being appreciated, and having social and intellectual exchange.
TEQABLE offers freelancers this harbour. And thus gives clients the opportunity to form ideal and well-organised teams specific to each project. The model has proven very successful for several years.
