Job Mission

The Programme Chapter Lead (PCL) is a senior strategic leader and decision maker who will articulate the strategic direction, drive the development, implementation and embedding of the CO strategy and operating model within the CO Programme Chapter, with a OneCO mindset to reach the CO North Star of Productivity and Patient Centricity. The Clinical Operations Programme Chapter is the largest CO chapter (approx. 80 FTEs) comprising Programme Leads and Study Leads who are accountable for the delivery of all pRED clinical trials. The PCL will enable the Programme Chapter to deliver maximum impact to CO, pRED and the global organisation with a specific focus on productivity, portfolio delivery and innovation.

The Programme Chapter Lead is a senior member of the Clinical Operations team, accountable for leading the success of the chapter in a matrix setting (reporting line for the position and chapter is to an administrative line manager), being a collaborative voice of the chapter, working across CO, pRED and the Roche enterprise to evolve and implement the pRED CO strategy in line with the Roche vision.

Your Impact

  • In collaboration with all pRED CO chapters, strategise, refine, and execute clinical operations delivery strategy cross-DTAs and delivery of our dynamic portfolio.

  • Influence and connect across CO and the enterprise and use bold creative solutions to develop and evolve the Programme Chapter with broad-ranging and flexible capabilities, maximising the opportunity for developing our talent and optimally deploying resources to deliver on the productivity North Star for CO in the context of portfolio delivery.

  • Lead the chapter in understanding current performance, challenges and opportunities associated with Clinical Program delivery and the organisational model within the chapter and formulate actionable solutions, in collaboration with other chapters and beyond to enhance delivery and engagement.

  • Lead the change management and embedding of the new operating model for CO within the Programme Chapter, through inspirational leadership, in close collaboration with other chapters, with a OneCO mindset and leveraging learnings from other business areas to influence transformation-related change and enable engagement within the chapter.

  • Develop a strong network of expertise from across the enterprise which can be leveraged to benefit the Programme Chapter and wider CO. This will also require the postholder to have a highly robust knowledge of the changing internal/external pressures and potential external partners to leverage.

You bring 10 years + of experience in people leadership and the development of large teams in a matrix environment.

This role requires the ability to plan long-term to visualise the future state while remaining focused on portfolio delivery and business outcomes. The role is critical to enable the success of the chapter, and in addition to the key strategic elements of the role, the enabling of talent development and flow, embedding new ways of working and mindset shifts in line with our transformation and the ability to inspire and enable engagement and motivation within the chapter are pivotal. This position requires extensive strategic and operational leadership, with experience in evolving operating models and leading teams through significant change. A willingness to evolve in the role to enable a highly functioning, self-managed team over time will be a success driver. A solid understanding of clinical development and ideally clinical operations is required as well as the leadership to inspire, develop and evolve the chapter, based on deep experience of the PCL.

  • Extensive experience in the pharmaceutical and/or healthcare industry and drug development experience

  • Knowledge of the competitive landscape and key business drivers for increasing productivity & patient-centricity in Clinical Operations.

  • Extensive understanding of the global dynamics impacting Clinical Trials with a strong network of Partners within the Clinical Operations discipline

  • Proactive management of risk mitigation strategies to troubleshoot foreseeable consequences to a variety of Clinical Operations strategies

  • Experience in the management of global teams with a robust understanding of the dynamics and requirements of infrastructure groups.
