Our Switch Cloud Portal team is a multi-disciplinary team that provides applications and workflows to help customers manage their slice of the cloud. We include process specialists, full stack developers and DevOps engineers. We work closely with all cloud infrastructure teams, including storage, compute, networking and container orchestration services to integrate these services into a portal optimised for the needs of research and education.
We are seeking a dedicated DevOps Engineer with experience in continuous deployment to join our team and help us with maintaining and improving our application development platform, increasing our expertise in DevOps practices and driving our infrastructure as code initiatives.
DevOps Engineer (80-100% - all identities and backgrounds)
Your main tasks are
- Ensuring a reliable, secure and scalable deployment environment for Switch Cloud management applications.
- You are responsible for maintaining and improving:
- PostgreSQL infrastructure (databases for our services, pgAdmin4, ...),
- Ansible collections, roles and infrastructure (Ara Records, Ansible, ...),
- Terraform modules and projects to manage virtual machines on our OpenStack infrastructure,
- various CI/CD pipelines to build and deploy standard components and our applications (mainly Ruby on Rails)
- and other backing services: Sentry, Certificate Management, Site24x7, Loki, Grafana, Vector, Kafka ...
- Within our team you work closely with full stack developers to optimise our development and operation workflows.
- You work on improving our cloud management solutions, in particular the performance, security and stability of portal and billing services, to ensure operational excellence.
- You identify, analyse and solve problems and incidents, in collaboration with the team.
- You participate in 2nd/3rd level support and iteratively improve the products based on direct customer feedback.
What you bring
- Good knowledge and independent practices of Linux, Git (GitLab), PostgreSQL, Openstack, Terraform/Opentofu, Ansible, Docker, and general DevOps practices.
- An university degree in computer science or comparable qualifications as well as good expertise in DevOps and/or Site Reliability Engineering.
- 3+ years of practical experience in developing, deploying and managing platforms for reliable web applications.
- Good communication, teamwork, active participation, commitment to continuous improvement, and feedback skills.
- Fluent in English (German is a plus).
