Roche's Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED) is structured by therapeutic areas. The immunology group is part of I2O, the Immunology, Infectious Diseases and Ophthalmology (I2O) Discovery and Translational Area. Within I2O, the early clinical development group is responsible for developing and executing the early development (Phase I-II) clinical strategies, to deliver well-differentiated therapies with meaningful improvement for patients.

We are seeking an outstanding, highly motivated Medical Director to join our Immunology team.

The Position

As a Translational Medical Director, you will lead early stage clinical projects through proof of mechanism and proof of concept up to phase 2 b to transform molecules into new medicines in areas with high-unmet medical need.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Development and implementation of strategies or technologies that contribute to scientific advancement to the field or specific pRED programs; scientific impact beyond pRED; scientifically influences drug developmental strategies across multiple stages of development

  • Mastery of certain Disease Area(s) and engagement with novel Disease Area(s)

  • Manages global project strategies or specialist areas (i.e. initiates and implements critical cross-functional strategic activities impacting drug development within pRED; thought leader for multiple development projects within function)

  • Key translational representative on discovery projects

  • Key member in Early Development Teams driving projects from clinical candidate selection to full development up to Phase 2

  • Develops and owns the Clinical Development Plan (CDP) in early development

  • Drives partnering activities for external opportunities

  • Scientific reviewer of projects impacting a cross-company dimension

  • Chairs cross-functional scientific meeting sessions

  • Represents own Global Function in project teams and within Discovery and Translational Area (DTA) and Governance

  • Pro-actively drives relevant stakeholder engagement

  • Co-responsible for scientific career development of scientists within therapeutic area

  • Ideally acts as key clinical scientific contact / medical monitor / answers selected medical queries

Managerial Responsibilities:

  • May work individually or as Matrix Lead or People Lead

  • Supervises, mentors, motivates and provides successful career development for scientists and/or team members

  • Integrates pRED Guiding Principles into everyday behaviors and activities

Scientific Innovation and Influence:

  • Develops external scientific presence through a record of high quality/highly cited publications in peer-reviewed.

  • Directs, reviews publications, presentations of others

Who You Are

We are looking for these qualifications:

  • You hold a MD or MD/PhD in an appropriate disease area (e.g. Gastroenterology, Respiratory, Immunology, or related area), combined with a strong clinical drug development expertise.

  • We are also considering applications of PhD without a MD degree if combined with >12 years clinical drug development expertise in the pharmaceutical industry, indicated by respective clinical or translational medicine positions

  • You bring a strong track record of scientific excellence (high quality publications in the field) and be considered a key opinion leader in the field. Please include them in your application.

  • Thorough understanding of all aspects and scientific methods used in Translational Medicine

  • Inspiring role model, you are able to attract and retain scientific talents

  • You are recognized by peers for scientific excellence (i.e. subject matter expertise across broad scientific area/multiple areas/clinical specialties; appreciated for scientific vision and strategy; recognized for scientific rigor and analytical evaluation skills)

  • You demonstrates effective interpersonal skills like being a keen listener & effective communicator

  • You encourage adoption of new approaches and demonstrates ongoing commitment to become more dynamic, agile and continuously improves

  • You are able to create an innovative and inclusive culture by thinking outside the box, bringing new ideas, influencing stakeholders
