Corporate Captain

General Description / objectives: 


  • Ensures the well running of the Nautical Operation onboard the assigned UW ships with our high safety standards.

  • Ensures that guidelines are followed and the Nautical team preforms to guarantee and maximize guest satisfaction.

  • Further develop the organization in accordance with the company vision and mission, and in close collaboration with the Director Nautical Operation 

Key Responsibilities and accountabilities

Strategic


  • To execute the planning and organisation of the free time schedule for the upcoming season in cooperation with Director Nautical Operation

  • To ensure that Uniworld ships are maintained properly and treated with respect at all times

  • To ensure that SEMP  is trained regularly and guest drills are performed as communicated

 

Operational


  • In charge of the daily operation and manning of the ships respecting the minimum amount of crew for the sailing times and license needed

  • To act as a captain in case of shortage of license for a limited time

  • Constantly monitoring the weather forecast and water levels on sailing area where UW perform to act in case of irregularities that result in sailing restrictions (low or high water)

  • To encourage upward communication and forward all constructive criticism, positive comments and suggestions from ship’s crew to the Corporate Office

  • Controller for travel expense and other cost of nautical crew

  •  To perform ship spot checks on a regular basis to ensure an appropriate safety equipment check and crew support is done

  • Record and monitor SHE performance on Uniworld ships and contributes to the SHE awareness of all Uniworld employees

  • Ensure that nautical crew have the right medical certificate and training to perform as breathing operator, safety expert and first aid member

People


  • To act as a dynamic motivator and ambassador for the Nautical Operations Department through visible management and leadership by example

  • Responsible for recruiting of nautical crewmembers

  • Responsible for all aspects concerning the training and support of apprentices 

  • Coaches, supports and trains all team members to ensure the personal development of all.

  • Attend the regular corporate management meeting Conducts regular performance evaluations with direct subordinates and ensures all other team members in this department take part in regular performance evaluations by their supervisors

Additional duties


  • Weekend phone duty for emergencies and sailing disruption in rotation with the other Corporate Captain 

  • Any additional duties as required by the organization
