Zurich is currently looking for a Market Facing Commercial Surety Underwriter for our South Region. This position will be based out of one of our offices in the South Region: Atlanta, GA, Charlotte, NC, Maitland, FL or Virtual in SC, TN, or AL. This role will require you to be visible in the marketplace to meet with our agents and brokers.

As a Surety Underwriter, you will work to analyze and underwrite a book of new and renewal business. Underwriters will use the Zurich Way of Underwriting Framework within delegated authority levels on highly complex assignments ensuring a high-level service to customers. In this role, you will partner with the South Region brokers and will utilize strong sales execution mindset to write profitable business.

Additional responsibilities will include:

  • Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities.
  • Qualify accounts to meet with the organization's appetite, balanced with sound business opportunity. Negotiate Terms & Conditions and close deals.
  • Cross-Sell other lines of business to increase product density with the account.
  • Update required systems with details of broker / client visits and account status within specified time frame.
  • Calculate Target Price accurately by utilizing underwriting tools appropriately.
  • Diagnose and develop recommendations to solve unique business unit and customer problems
  • Demonstrate specialized knowledge and expertise in products and industry.
  • Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations, and rating manuals.
  • Work at the highest authority limits on assignments utilizing the highest degree of technical complexity and coordination.

This role will be filled at either the Surety Underwriter (level I) or Account Executive (level II) level. The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based upon the selected applicant’s experience and skill set relative to the qualifications listed for this position

Surety Underwriter Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 1 or more years of experience in the Insurance or Market Facing area, Finance, Accounting, Banking experience

OR

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 2 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area

AND

  • Knowledge of the insurance industry and the legal and regulatory environment
  • Knowledge of underwriting philosophy, techniques, national/local filing regulations and guidelines

OR

Account Executive Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 3 or more years of experience in the Insurance or Market Facing area, Finance, Accounting, Banking experience

OR

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 6 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area

OR

  • Zurich approved Apprenticeship program including an Associate Degree and 1 or more years of experience in the Insurance or Market Facing area, Finance, Accounting, Banking experience

OR

  • Zurich approved Apprenticeship program including an Associate Degree and 4 or more years of experience in claims or underwriting support area

AND

  • Knowledge of legal and regulatory guidelines
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Experience working under deadlines
  • Experience working in a fast-paced team environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Microsoft Office experience
