Staff Bioinformatician/Computational Biologist

100%, Zurich, fixed-term

The mission of the Institute of Microbiology (IMB) at ETH Zürich is to advance cutting-edge research in microbiology and immunology. To this end, the IMB provides a collaborative environment with a focus on understanding microbial communities and microbe-host interactions in diverse systems ranging from the ocean and plants to mice and humans. The IMB maintains interdisciplinary collaborations with several groups in the ETH domain, at the national level (for example, the NCCR Microbiomes) as well as international partners and large research consortia.

We are seeking a motivated, skilled and organised Staff Bioinformatician/Computational Biologist to join our team as a Staff Bioinformatician of the IMB.

Job description

Data analysis. The candidate supports research projects of PhD students and postdocs at the IMB by applying (and/or advising on) appropriate biostatistics and modelling methods for the analysis, integration and visualization of omics data (e.g., genomics, metagenomics, metatranscriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics).

Data and IT infrastructural management. The candidate supports the management, storage and submission to relevant repositories of the various data types (i.e., omics and imaging) that are generated at the IMB, and collaborates with the IT staff and Senior Bioinformatician of the IMB to maintain infrastructure for administrative and teaching needs.

Training of IMB members in relevant areas of bioinformatics/computational biology. The candidate supports the training of PhD students and postdocs by organising individual sessions and regular teaching sessions (e.g., workshops) for the members of the IMB.

Development of tools and methods for biological data analysis. Initiatives to develop tools and methods for the analysis of omics data, also in the context of career development, are welcome.
