Short Description
We are seeking a reliable and enthusiastic (Senior) Technician to join our Biomedical Materials team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting our research projects by contributing to the development of novel biomaterials for regenerative medicine applications. Responsibilities include ensuring a safe and productive laboratory environment, conducting safety and chemical training, performing chemical synthesis, and utilizing material characterization techniques.
Main Responsibilities
Ensure functioning of the specific instruments of the Biomedical Materials laboratory (e.g. HPLC, electrospray, FTIR, rheometer), write related documentation (guidelines and SOP's) and adequate training of the users. Support general lab processes, propose and implement improvements. Handle ordering system, chemical list, lab duties and shipments for the group.
Execute chemical synthesis, mainly biopolymers and other project-related scientific work
Runs autonomously technical tasks in collaboration with scientists
Ensure implementation of safety regulations in the ARI laboratories
Know and follow the processes, guidelines and SOP's relevant to the work using internal QM system
Maintain the Biomedical Materials laboratory and project related documentation
Perform laboratory protocols and technical work as required in collaboration with team members
Teach and supervise best laboratory practices to laboratory users
Responsible for general lab safety at ARI: safety introduction of new ARI members, ensure safety at ARI, perform safety evaluation of ARI
Member of AO Occupational Safety and Hygiene Committee and delegate for environmental protection
Sample pick up (e.g. bovine knees) and external analyses (NMR), requiring occasional travel (return on the same day to Davos)
Regular presentation of short scientific updates and new measuring equipment for the laboratory
Main Requirements
Qualification as a chemistry laboratory technician or equivalent
Five or more years of professional experience in a similar role
Strong theoretical and practical experience in biopolymers chemical synthesis and characterization
Accurate, detail oriented and reliable
Proactive; Independent and structured functioning
Team player; good communications skills
Fluency in English. German will be considered as a major advantage
Valid driving license
Experience in General Lab Safety
Conditions of Employment
Candidates who do not fulfill the core requirements, including theoretical and practical experience in biopolymers chemical synthesis or experience in laboratory and chemical safety, will be considered for a 3-year contract with a plan to fill the gaps and extension into a permanent contract.
