Community Rabbi

Founded over 200 years ago, the Jewish Community of Basel (IGB) is one of the largest Jewish communities in Switzerland with its almost 900 members. The IGB is a united community run according to the rules of halacha, which offers its members a wide range of services, a broad cultural and educational programme and a welldeveloped Jewish infrastructure. Basel is an attractive, culturally rich and family-friendly city where Jewish life is visibly lived. There is a broad range of Jewish associations with social activities, a wide range of kosher services, various childcare and educational institutions and much more. We are looking for a successor to our esteemed Rabbi Dr. Moshe Baumel from summer 2024 with potential flexibility, as our Community Rabbi
Your responsibilities

• Rabbinical duties and activities within our congregation
• Maintaining a close rabbinical relationship with our members throughout all stages of their lives
• Presiding over the IGB religious education classes and giving regular shiurim for both adults and children
• Pastoral activities and counselling members in their personal affairs
• Overseeing all halachic and related ritual matters Your profile
  
• You have a rabbinical degree (Smicha Yoreh Yoreh) and further education with a broad Jewish and a very good general education.
• You are an open-minded, proactive, trustworthy, and resilient personality with charisma.
• You strive to strengthen the united congregation with initiative in an inclusive approach and continue to lead it in a contemporary manner. Relevant professional experience is advantageous.
• You treat everyone with respect, regardless of their religiosity, background, or diversity.
• You have a high level of social competence and are used working in a team.
• You are open to integrating into life in Basel and actively representing the

Jewish Community of Basel to the public. Interreligious dialogue is also a topic close to your heart. - You speak German very well or are willing to improve your basic level of German.
