The Center for Experimental Neurology (ZEN) is a research center of the Department of Neurology at the University of Bern. It hosts experimental laboratories conducting research in neuroscience and neurology. It includes state-of-the-art technical platform for molecular, cellular, and behavioral neurobiology.

What you can expect

ZEN (25 - 50 % permanent)

  • Support with the genotyping of the transgenic mice
  • Lab managements, ordering, organizing the chemicals, service of the lab equipment
  • Support with the management of the mouse colonies and the animal licenses.
  • Control of the Biosafety measurements
  • Introduction to new lab members in the biosafety rules and guidelines of the lab and practical introduction to the animal experimental protocols.
Bridge (50 %, until 29 February 2028): Together with the researchers performing the animal experiments, which involves:
  • Viral injections in the mouse brain
  • Implanting the recording electrodes, analysis of the EEG recordings
  • Checking the health status of the animals by administering painkillers
  • Behavioral studies (rodent models), perfusing the animals and performing the histology on the brain (cryosection, immunostaining, fluorescence microscopy).

Your Profile

  • Completed training as a biomed. analyst or completed training as a laboratory technician EFZ, preferably with at least 2 years of experience in the similar field
  • Good organizational and communication skills
  • Practical experience in animal experimentation
  • Practical experience in histological techniques (cutting, frozen tissue, histochemical and immune stainings) desirable
  • Very good knowledge of German and English
