Postdoctoral Fellow development and characterization of charge integrating detectors / 80% or more, flextime

The Paul Scherrer Institute PSI is the largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences within Switzerland. We perform cutting-edge research in the fields of future technologies, energy and climate, health innovation and fundamentals of nature. By performing fundamental and applied research, we work on sustainable solutions for major challenges facing society, science and economy. PSI is committed to the training of future generations. Therefore, about one quarter of our staff are post-docs, post-graduates or apprentices. Altogether, PSI employs 2200 people.

For the Photon Science Detector Group we are looking for a

Your tasks

The Detector group is since more than 10 years on the forefront of charge integrating detector development, in particular with the Jungfrau detector, a 75um automatic gain switching pixel detector widely used at FELs and synchrotron Sources. You will participate in the characterization of the current and next generation Jungfrau charge integration pixel detectors. You will perfect the calibration routines. You will test detector prototypes and full modules, analyze the data, and collaborate with the chip designers to understand and improve the performance of the ASIC. You will take part in experiments and beamtimes to characterize and optimize the performance of the Jungfrau detectors.
As our group philosophy relies on a strong teamwork, you will be able to get an insight in all aspects of detector development.

Your profile

  • You have a PhD degree in physics, electronic engineering or a subject related to solid state detectors
  • You have experience with radiation detectors, a knowledge of electronics is a plus
  • Skills in data analysis are required, preferably Root/C++, C and/or Python
  • You are highly motivated, can work independently and strive to contribute with new ideas
