Postdoc position in the field of wood modification (DoubleSinkWood project)

The Cellulose and Wood Materials Laboratory develops methods and processes for the efficient utilization of wood and wood-based materials.

Your tasks

We are seeking an outstanding candidate with a strong background in the treatment of cellulosic porous media to take up a challenging PostDoc position in wood technology and materials chemistry. Within the DoubleSinkWood project, we intend to increase the durability of wood by more sustainable and environmentally friendly approaches compared to common impregnation with biocides. Instead, the wood structure should be impregnated with carbon from industrial processes to further enhance the carbon storage capacity of the durable wood product compared to native wood.

Your profile

The position requires a highly motivated and creative personality and expertise to connect materials chemistry with cellulosic materials. Further qualifications include a doctoral degree in materials chemistry, chemical engineering, wood science, or a related field. We expect a very good track record with high-quality scientific publications. A basic understanding of wood and wood technology is advantageous, but not a requirement. Very good communication and writing skills in English are required; basic German language skills are beneficial.

Our offer

You will be working in an international research team addressing diverse scientific fields related to wood science and technology in a research institution in the Zürich area with outstanding infrastructure and within a broadly interdisciplinary setting. The duration of this position is two years. The project will start on September 1st, 2024.

We live a culture of inclusion and respect. We welcome all people who are interested in innovative, sustainable and meaningful activities - that's what counts.

We look forward to receiving your complete online application including a letter of motivation, CV, certificates, diplomas and contact details of two reference persons. Please submit these exclusively via our job portal. Applications by e-mail and by post will not be considered.
