We believe that inclusion is key to understanding people’s varied healthcare needs. Together, we embrace individuality and share a passion for exceptional care. Join Roche, where every voice matters.

The Position

A healthier future. It’s what drives us to innovate. To continuously advance science and ensure everyone has access to the healthcare they need today and for generations to come. Creating a world where we all have more time with the people we love. That’s what makes us Roche.

In Roche’s Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development organization (pRED) , we make transformative medicines for patients to tackle some of the world’s toughest unmet healthcare needs. At pRED, we are united by our mission to transform science into medicine. Together, we create a culture defined by curiosity, responsibility and humility, where our talented people are empowered and inspired to bring forward extraordinary life-changing innovation at speed.

This position is located in ADME, a chapter within Global Pharmaceutical Sciences, where the fate of new chemical entities and biologics is a primary focus. The ADME Chapter works throughout all stages of compound development, from lead optimisation to candidate selection, all clinical development phases to the filing of new drug applications. We closely collaborate with our therapeutic areas and functions to convert hypotheses into innovative therapeutics.

The Opportunity

The Biotransformation Scientist will support in vitro and in vivo biotransformation studies to support drug candidate optimization, selection and regulatory submission including soft spot identification, structure elucidation of metabolites, assessment of metabolic pathways and MIST assessment.

  • You provide scientific expertise and guidance in the set-up, validation and application of state-of-the-art approaches to assess the biotransformation of our small molecule drug candidates, as well as adapt to new modalities as required.

  • You document results, write regulatory reports, author scientific publications, and communicate conclusions that facilitate decision-making together with colleagues beyond the ADME.

  • You work on projects in scope ranging from early discovery up to the regulatory submission stage according to health authority guidelines.

  • You design experimental strategies, run and/or supervise appropriate experiments, monitor outsourced studies, and work with state-of-the-art LC-HRMS equipment.

This position is a temporary contract for 2 years.

Who you are

  • You hold a PhD in chemistry, biochemistry or related relevant discipline.

  • You are experienced in structure elucidation of small molecules through the generation and interpretation of high-resolution mass spectra. You have practical experience (preferably industrial) in the area of drug metabolism.

  • You are familiar with common digital tools for experimental planning, data capturing, evaluation and reporting in databases and reports.

  • You are committed to working with a proactive and strategic thinking style in close collaboration with a matrix-organized team of subject matter experts and project members, to drive the portfolio forward with the best possible approaches.
