Process Engineer (SY-RF-SRF-2024-121-GRAP)

Job Description

Your responsibilities

As a Process Engineer you will join the team in charge of the design and construction of a new facility dedicated to the development and production of superconducting radio-frequency components. In this role, you will conduct the design of fully automated ultra-pure water generators, high-pressure rinsing and vacuum drying systems operating in cleanroom environment.

For this purpose you will:

  • Collect and analyze the user's requirements for a given equipment;
  • Provide the conceptual design and costing of the equipment to be built or upgraded, based on existing industrial solutions adapted to the operation in clean environment;
  • Define the process controls, supervision and data acquisition required for the operation and monitoring;
  • Elaborate the technical specifications in order to outsource the manufacturing of the equipment in industry; 
  • Follow-up at CERN and in industry the design, manufacturing, testing, installation and commissioning of the equipment.

Your profile

Skills and/or knowledge

  • Experience in designing process equipment for fluids, preferably for pharmaceutical or semiconductors applications;
  • Sound knowledge of process controls and automation;
  • Good knowledge of PLC programming and development of SCADA and HMI interfaces;
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities;
  • Being able to work both independently and within a multidisciplinary team;
  • Fluent in English, the ability to work in French would be an advantage.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • You have a professional background in Electromechanical or Process engineering (or a related field) and have either:
    • a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
    • or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.

Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.
