The Paul Scherrer Institute PSI is the largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences within Switzerland. We perform cutting-edge research in the fields of future technologies, energy and climate, health innovation and fundamentals of nature. By performing fundamental and applied research, we work on sustainable solutions for major challenges facing society, science and economy. PSI is committed to the training of future generations. Therefore, about one quarter of our staff are post-docs, post-graduates or apprentices. Altogether, PSI employs 2300 people.
The PSI Center for Accelerator Science and engineering (CAS) designs, builds, and operates a variety of research particle accelerator facilities. A key part in each accelerator complex is the injection/extraction system that introduces, steers, and extracts charged particles into and out of the accelerator. This is done by applying electric and/or magnetic fields that can be continuous or pulsed depending on the concrete needs.
Our group designs, builds and maintains the accelerator components that create, control, and monitor these fields. Depending on the particular solution they might include high voltage (up to tens of kV) and high current (up to 10 kA) switching systems, high precision and low noise measurement devices, high-speed pulse electronics (nanoseconds to microseconds) etc. Since the accelerator complexes operate 24/7 and their lifetime extends to several tens of years our devices must function reliably over extended periods of time.
To achieve our goals, we often need to push the boundaries of the existing technology and find innovative solutions.
For our Injection Systems Group we are looking for a
