About the role

We are looking for a Technical Project Manager with a strong software engineering background to help drive our ongoing software modernization journey.

Our environment consists of multiple mid-sized software solutions with complex interdependencies. As we replace legacy systems, reduce technical debt, and introduce modern technologies and new products, we need someone who can maintain technical and organizational overview across initiatives.

This role combines project leadership, technical understanding, and solution thinking. You will operate at the intersection of engineering, architecture, and business - ensuring that projects deliver sustainable technical solutions rather than isolated implementations.

This is not a traditional administrative PM role. We are looking for someone who understands software systems deeply and can actively guide technical decisions while ensuring structured delivery. Your focus will be on building sustainable systems, not just project completion.

Responsibilities

Project & Delivery Leadership

• Lead software development and modernization projects end-to-end 
• Define project scope, milestones, delivery plans, and execution strategies 
• Manage risks, dependencies, and cross-system impacts 
• Contribute to improving software delivery processes and SDLC
• Ensure high-quality and reliable software delivery

Technical Coordination & Architecture Alignment

• Maintain a holistic overview of system landscapes and integrations 
• Collaborate closely with developers, architects, and product stakeholders 
• Align architecture with delivery needs across multiple initiatives
• Challenge solutions when they increase complexity or technical debt 
• Support solution design discussions and architectural decision-making 
• Promote scalable, maintainable, and modern engineering practices 

Required Experience

• Strong background in software development (former developer or engineer) 
• Solid understanding of software architecture, system integration, and distributed systems 
• Ability to understand codebases and technical trade-offs without necessarily coding daily 
• Experience working across multiple teams / initiatives
• Experience working with modern software development practices (Agile, DevOps, CI/CD) are a strong plus

Desired Skills

• Background as Technical Lead, Solution Architect, or Engineering Lead 
• Experience balancing delivery pressure with long-term technical quality 
• Strong analytical and systems thinking mindset 
• Comfortable operating in partially evolving or ambiguous environments 
• Good understanding of backend systems, APIs, and integrations
• Experience with complex systems, modernization or legacy transformation projects 
• Fluent in English and German
