Role -Linux Administrator
Location - Switzerland - Geneva
Linux Administrator is responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining Linux-based systems and servers. They ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the systems that support core organizational functions. The role involves monitoring system performance, applying necessary updates, securing systems from vulnerabilities, and troubleshooting issues as they arise, build new servers for projects.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
• Installation & Configuration: Install and configure Linux servers and workstations according to organizational needs.
• System Maintenance: Perform regular system maintenance, including kernel upgrades, patching, software updates, and backups.
• System Monitoring: Monitor system performance, load, and disk space, resolving any performance bottlenecks and ensuring optimal system uptime.
• Security Management: Implement and maintain system security, security policies.
• Troubleshooting & Support: Provide technical support and resolve issues related to hardware, software, or network services, including debugging server issues.
• Automation & Scripting: Develop scripts and automation tools to enhance system efficiency and reduce manual administrative tasks (e.g., using Bash, and automation tools like Ansible).
• Backup & Recovery: Design and maintain backup strategies and disaster recovery plans to ensure data integrity and availability.
• Documentation: Maintain system documentation, procedures, and configurations for future reference or troubleshooting purposes.
• Collaboration: Work closely with network administrators, database administrators, and other IT staff to ensure seamless integration of systems.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
• Experience: 3-5+ years of hands-on experience as a Linux administrator.
• Operating Systems: Proficiency in different Linux distributions, such as RedHat, CentOS, Ubuntu, or Debian.
• Storage: Strong knowledge of SAN and NAS concepts (eg Pure Storage, MDS Switches)
• Scripting & Automation: Strong scripting skills (e.g., Bash, Python, Perl, or similar).
• Security: Familiarity with security best practices, including configuring firewalls (e.g., iptables), SELinux.
• Networking: Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, SSH, and other network protocols.
• Virtualization & Cloud: Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware) and AWS cloud platforms.
• Troubleshooting: Ability to diagnose and resolve hardware and software problems effectively.
• Certifications (Optional): Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA), Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE), or Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPIC).
Preferred Qualifications:
• Knowledge of DevOps tools like Ansible, Terraform.
• Experience with containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
• Familiarity with database administration (Oracle) and web server management (e.g., Apache).
Work Environment:
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• On-call availability to respond to emergencies and system failures.
• Team collaboration and ability to work independently when needed.
This role is critical for maintaining the operational integrity of Linux systems and ensuring the smooth functioning of IT infrastructure.
