Über den Job
Hitachi Energy Transformers is seeking a visionary and analytically strong Innovation Technology Scouting Lead to shape how we identify, evaluate, and connect the world’s most promising emerging technologies to our business needs. In this strategic role, you will be the organization’s radar, scanning global ecosystems, decoding technology shifts, mapping competitive landscapes, and translating weak signals into clear, actionable insights for R&D, portfolio teams, and executive leadership.
You will build and steward the structure capital that powers our innovation intelligence: scouting databases, review tools, maturity models, due‑diligence frameworks, and ecosystem networks. Your work will directly influence in early‑stage technology bets, pilot selections, partnerships, and long‑term R&D investments across the transformer business.
Within the Global Innovation Organization, you will join a fast‑moving, entrepreneurial, and experimentation‑driven community that collaborates across functions and ecosystems to drive disruptive thinking and meaningful impact.
This is a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of the energy transition, spotting the breakthroughs that will transform our industry and shaping how Hitachi Energy engages with startups, scale‑ups, research institutes, and emerging innovators worldwide.
How you will make an impact
- Build and continuously refine global technology landscapes, with the support of field experts. They must include maturity maps, SWOT analyses, benchmarking dashboards, and ecosystem heatmaps that support R&D and business decision‑making.
- Produce high‑quality intelligence reports on technology trends, competitor innovation moves, and ecosystem developments to inform early strategic assessments.
- Capture and translate internal needs by running workshops, interviews, and discovery sessions that align scouting priorities with business challenges and long‑term roadmaps.
- Develop and maintain structured, high‑quality scouting databases covering startups, technologies, research partners, suppliers, and innovation ecosystems relevant to transformers, power systems, energy transition, and digitalization.
- Design and govern technology assessment frameworks, such as scoring tools, due‑diligence templates, risk models, and maturity evaluations that enable consistent, data‑driven selection.
- Partner closely with engineering, product management, R&D, strategy, and business development to convert scouting insights into early pilot concepts and validated opportunities.
- Coordinate global scouting partners, including consultancies, venture scouts, accelerators, and VC groups, ensuring consistent quality, strong KPIs, and high‑value insights.
- Facilitate engagement between internal teams and external innovators, organizing matchmaking sessions, discovery calls, and exploration workshops.
- Shape and refine early‑stage pilot concepts, including value hypotheses, success criteria, risk profiles, and recommended next steps.
- Strengthen Hitachi Energy’s visibility and influence by representing the organization in global open innovation communities.
- Ensure robust knowledge management, maintaining accessible repositories, structured reports, and standardized documentation that inform future decisions.
- Track scouting impact through KPIs, including opportunity creation, startup assessments, pilot conversion, and contributions to roadmap or business milestones.
Your background
- Degree in Innovation Management, Engineering, Business Innovation, Technology Strategy, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in technology scouting, startup evaluation, market intelligence, innovation management, or venture‑clienting roles within industrial, energy, or tech environments.
- Strong grasp of emerging technologies across energy, digitalization, industrial IoT, advanced materials, manufacturing, and software/hardware convergence.
- Proven track record in analyzing large datasets, synthesizing complex technologies, and identifying the signal within the noise.
- Ability to convert emerging or early‑stage signals into clear, actionable, strategically relevant insights.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate startup technologies, assess Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs), and conduct structured due‑diligence assessments.
- Experience with databases, intelligence platforms, scouting tools, and structured review methodologies.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills, comfortable collaborating in global, matrixed environments.
- Experience engaging with innovation ecosystems such as accelerators, VCs, national labs, research institutes, and industry consortia. Direct experience in technology scouting or startup evaluation is highly valued.
