La thèse sera interdisciplinaire, entre Sciences computationnelles et droit/RI, encadrée par les Professeurs Levrat et Wernli.
La thèse portera sur le thème suivant : "Conceiving and designing a ’minority in society index’ to be implemented through UN mechanisms" (NB: le Prof. Levrat exerce le mandat de Rapporteur spécial de l’ONU sur les questions relatives aux minorités).
Une expérience en recherche quantitative.
Excellente maîtrise du français et de l’anglais. La maîtrise d’autres langues sera un atout.
Une connaissance de langage de programmation contemporain (Python ou R) est souhaitée.
Traitement : classe 08/04 à 08/12 à 100% de CHF 68’357.- à CHF 81’246.- brut annuel, sous réserve d’un blocage temporaire de la progression par décision du Conseil d’Etat.

Job Description :
Teaching (50%)
Organization and facilitation of UN negotiation simulation exercises (2 hours/week annually; in French during the first semester; in English during the second semester).
Support for teaching (mainly organizing and grading exams) for the following courses:
Research (50%)
In accordance with current UNIGE regulations, the assistant will have 50% of their time dedicated to their PhD thesis.
The thesis will be interdisciplinary, combining computational sciences and law/international relations, supervised by Professors Levrat and Wernli.
The thesis topic will be: ’Conceiving and designing a ’minority in society index’ to be implemented through UN mechanisms’ (Note: Prof. Levrat serves as UN Special Rapporteur on minority issues).
Required Degree and Skills :
Hold by January 2026 a Master’s degree in either an interdisciplinary field, international law, international relations, or computational sciences (computer science).
Experience in quantitative research.
Excellent command of French and English. Knowledge of other languages is an asset.
Familiarity with a contemporary programming language (Python or R) is desirable.
Start Date : February 1, 2026, or as agreed.
Additional Information : The successful candidate will be hired on a two-year contract, renewable for two successive periods of two years and one year respectively. The maximum duration of the assistant position is five years. The first year is a probationary period during which the employment relationship may be terminated with three months’ notice effective at the end of a month.
Salary: Grade 08/04 to 08/12 at 100%, from CHF 68,357 to CHF 81,246 gross annually, subject to a temporary freeze on progression by decision of the State Council.
