Background
The United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research – UNIDIR is an autonomous institution within the United Nations that conducts independent research on disarmament and related problems, particularly international security issues. The vision of UNIDIR is a stable and more secure world in which States and people are protected from threats of arms-related violence. The role of UNIDIR is to support Member States, the United Nations, and policy and research communities in advancing ideas and actions that contribute to a more sustainable and peaceful world. UNIDIR is based in the Palais des Nations, Geneva.
UNIDIR’s Security and Technology Programme supports multilateral disarmament processes in responding effectively to the security challenges raised by technological innovation through the provision of accessible knowledge, relevant analysis and facilitated multi-stakeholder dialogue. The programme is seeking a Project Coordinator for Digital Tools to coordinate all tasks pertaining to the development, maintenance and promotion of a number of digital tools and portals that enable the programme to deliver against its objectives.
Responsibilities
Within UNIDIR’s Security and Technology Programme, the Project Coordinator shall perform the following duties under the supervision of the Head of Programme and Deputy Head of Programme:
- Manage the development and maintenance of the portals, databases and additional digital tools required for the implementation of programme activities:
- Support the Head of Programme in the conceptualization of new developments for existing and new tools;
- Manage engagement with technical developers/web designers and liaise with the web administrators as appropriate to implement agreed changes; and
- Coordinate the rapid resolution of technical issues emerging on the portals.
- Content management:
- Support the design and lead the implementation of a content update methodology;
- Ensure the correct operations and accessibility of online content (e.g. identify and fix broken links); and
- Act as an internal and external focal point for all content-related issues.
- Analysis and reporting:
- Provide analysis and monthly reports on web traffic on the portals; and
- Prepare infographics and promotional material to support communication activities for the portal.
- Communication:
- Manage communication with relevant POC in member states to solicit periodic updates;
- Liaise with existing partners and identify opportunities for partnerships with other existing portals and databases; and
- Manage internal communications with the strategic communications team to ensure regular promotion of the tools.
- Assist in other duties as assigned by the programme or the institute’s management.
Schedule for the proposed work
A work plan for the duration of the contract will be established within the first two weeks of the contract. The Project Coordinator will have regular communication with the Head of Programme in order to set assignments within the work plan and monitor progress.

Qualifications and experience
Education
Required
- Advanced university (Master’s degree or equivalent) in international affairs, political science, international law, public administration, disarmament and arms control, international security or other relevant field.
Experience
Required
- A minimum of 3 years’ relevant professional experience, including managing web content and digital tools, project administration, management and planning.
- Computer competency, including but not limited to Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
Desirable
- Knowledge of multilateral processes regarding new and emerging technologies, and experience working at an international organization or an internationally recognized think tank.
- Familiarity with relevant stakeholders, including regional organisations, UN funds, agencies and programmes.
- Experience in fundraising and donor relationships.
- Experience in the production of social media content for promotional purposes.
- Experience working for a UN research organization.
Language
For the position advertised, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of French and/or other official UN languages is desirable.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise, which may be followed by a competency-based interview.
Travel
The Project Coordinator is required to travel during the course of this assignment. Dates and locations will be determined during implementation of the programme. The Project Coordinator must complete the UN course BSAFE and provide UNIDIR with a certificate of completion.
