Medical Project Management Director, Global Oncology
Locations - UK - GSK HQ, US - Upper Providence & Zug - Switzerland
Job Summary:
We currently have an exciting opportunity to work in a fast paced, high performing Chief Patient Officer organization (CPO) as Medical Project Management Director, Global Oncology. You will be leading our global team of seven project managers and reporting into the Head of Project Management, Insights and Impact in Global Strategy, Innovation and Performance.
This leadership role is central to ensuring operational excellence, cross-functional alignment, and flawless execution across a dynamic portfolio.
In 2026, a key strategic focus for the company is excellence in execution. The Director will play a pivotal role in embedding this ambition - strengthening operational rigor, improving delivery consistency, and fostering a high-performance culture across the Project Management function.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Management
-
The Project Director (PD) will manage a team of 6-8 Medical Project Managers that are deployed to support oncology early, late and launching assets.

Establish clear performance expectations in collaboration with business partners. Continuously monitor performance progress and track delivery against annual goals.

Cultivate a culture of executional excellence by maintaining high standards in planning, delivery, and effective stakeholder management within a fast-paced environment.

Maintain strong internal and external networks and work proactively to identify and attract the best talent to renew the organization as needed.
Excellence in Project Management
-
The PD will actively engage in Project Management, Insights, and Impact Leadership Team meetings, collaborating with peers to shape central team strategic priorities that align with CPO objectives. Additionally, the PD will support capability-building initiatives by ensuring the implementation and routine embedding of best practices and learnings across therapies (medical planning, impact framework, GMT risk management, etc)

Drive operational excellence by effectively co-developing/utilizing project management tools (e.g., planning tools, budget frameworks. etc) and implementing performance dashboards and KPIs. These efforts will ensure successful execution of the medical plan is delivered on time, within scope and on budget.

Contribute to high performing Global Medical Team (GMT) effectiveness by ensuring strong partnership between PMs and GMLs, PMs delivering strong secretariat role and high performing GMT behaviours are fully implemented.

Stays abreast of industry best practice and advances in Project Management technology including AI, drives us towards vision of a World Class Project Management organization.

Oversee procurement & annual procurement statement of work cycle.
Support operational delivery at Medical Therapy area (TA) level & Stakeholder Engagement

Leads Business and Medical planning with Global Product Strategy to ensure robust processes deployment and effective communication to business leaders.

Ensures Medical Affairs plan alignment with overarching disease area plans.

Partner closely with Medical Affairs, R&D, Commercial, and other global functions to ensure alignment and integrated planning across oncology programs.

Ensures efficient monitoring and management of budget spend vs forecast and consolidation of data at TA level working in collaboration with Finance and BPO.

As member of the therapy medical leadership team, contributes to TA objectives setting and delivery.

Coordinate medical governance preparation.

Effective delivery of External Engagement activities.

Provide input for the TA performance review by delivering a consolidated update on oncology assets and key priorities.
Basic Qualifications and Experience:
-
Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, pharmacy, medicine, or related field, or equivalent commercial experience.

Considerable and proven experience within the pharmaceutical industry in Medical Affairs and Oncology.

Experience leading and coaching high-performing teams and driving change across organisations.
-
Proven experience in project management.

Understanding of core Medical Affairs processes (e.g. Medical Planning, Scientific Engagement Planning, data generation)
-
Strong analytical skills with the ability to use data to guide decisions and improve performance.

Effective time management, ability to clearly identify priorities and manage multiple tasks.

Experience to work and influence senior stakeholders.
-
Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, communication skills, strong collaborator/communicator.
-
Understanding of the lifecycle of pharmaceutical drug development and commercialisation.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
-
Advanced degree (MSc, PharmD, MD, MBA or PhD) in a relevant discipline.

Formal project management certification (PMP, Prince2 or equivalent)
-
Strong Excel, PowerPoint, and database management skills.

Experience managing transformation or operational excellence initiatives.
-
Analytical, logical thought process with proven track record of strong matrix management, facilitation, and project management skills.
