Job Summary:

The Metallurgist position is responsible for overseeing the processes within the DC Casting production unit to optimize performance, maximize material recovery, eliminate process waste, and enhance productivity and conversion costs through metallurgical solutions, focused improvement projects, and process control. This role also ensures the maintenance of quality system requirements for the department and customer quality satisfaction.

Responsibilities:

· Passionate about safety.

· Maintain and enhance processing practices to improve product capability and performance, process efficiency, and material recovery.

· Provide technical expertise and support for the daily activities of the production unit.

· Support the development of processes for new products.

· Maintain all relevant technical practices, customer and special process specifications, and formal reports.

· Lead or participate in the investigation, data analysis, and implementation of solutions to complex problems involving multiple production centers and technical aspects.

· Identify opportunities for process improvement and act on those ideas through equipment modification, process enhancement, material changes, etc.

· Maintain the quality systems requirements for the production unit, including internal audits, equipment calibration, corrective action requests (CAR), process failure mode and effects analysis (PFMEA), external audits, etc.

· Ensure full compliance with societal and customer specifications.

· Ensure customer quality satisfaction by managing customer claims and corrective action requests (CAR).

· Benchmark within the industry and sister facilities to ensure the site maintains processes in compliance with customer needs and best practice levels.

· Be forward thinking in terms of equipment, process controls, and quality

· Acquire comprehensive knowledge of the specific products and processes at the Muscle Shoals facility.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor's of Science degree or higher in Metallurgy or Materials Science or related field required. No experience required but 1 to 3 years’ experience in Manufacturing (preferably in Aluminum Casting) is desired. Experience in a technical problem-solving role, preferably in a heavy manufacturing environment.

· Experience applying statistical knowledge and problem-solving tools and skills (Six Sigma certification a plus).

· Experience in ISO / IATF certification, control plans and FMEA’s is desired.

· Proficiency in SAP, mini-tab and computer process modelling is desired.

· Must be able to work in a fast-paced team environment.

· Good communication, high level of autonomy, collaboration and interpersonal skills are equally important.

· Perform, understand and communicate detailed information analysis and evaluation, and have a good track record working effectively within a team-based environment.

· Ability to work in cross-organizational and multi-functional teams in a global matrix organization with manufacturing operations and an international mindset.

Constellium Muscle Shoals is an aluminum manufacturing plant based in Alabama with over 1,200 employees. With its widest strip mill in the USA and a world-class recycling center, the site represents one of the largest sites within Constellium and is a world-class can recycling center, with the capacity to recycle nearly 20 billion cans per year. Muscle Shoals’ main product is aluminum can sheet for the packaging industry, particularly for beverage containers. It manufactures sheet used in all three components of an aluminum can, namely body stock, coated end stock and tab stock. Additionally, Muscle Shoals supplies Auto Body Sheet substrate to Constellium’s Bowling Green, Kentucky, site.
