In Scientific-IT we focus on building and maintaining the digital foundations of research at Eawag. Our services range from high-performance computing and cloud solutions to research data management and software development. Embedded in the IT department, we support a wide variety of scientific workflows, offering tools and infrastructure that are secure, scalable, and tuned to researchers’ needs. Collaborating closely with scientists we help ensure that Eawag remains a global leader in aquatic sciences.

Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to internal training, onboarding, and user documentation related to scientific data work-flows
- Collaborate with researchers to understand and respond to specific data-related needs
- Develop modern user interfaces and data visualizations using tools such as Python, R, JavaScript, or similar
- Assist with scripting and automation of data workflows in support of scientific reproducibility
- Developing concepts for IT-solutions including hard- and software for specific needs in research departments
- Advise and support researchers in the organization, documentation, and processing of research data across the data life cycle
- Provide guidance on data formats, metadata, and best practices aligned with FAIR principles
- Participate in collaborations with other institutes in the ETH domain, working closely with WSL to support joint projects and initiatives
Required Qualifications
- Degree in natural sciences, chemistry, engineering, computer science, or a related field; or equivalent relevant experience
- Programming proficiency in research-relevant languages (e.g. Python, R, JavaScript, SQL)
- Familiarity with Linux/Unix environments and common scientific data processing tools
- Experience with HPC computing environments would be advantageous
- Experience with data visualization and user interface development
- Strong service orientation and interpersonal communication skills
- Candidates need to be fluent in written and spoken English, while knowledge in German would be an asset
- The position further requires a high level of organisation, time management, teamwork, and communication skills
