As Mechanical Engineer you will be developing and designing parts and mechanical assemblies for the drone and base station of Sunflower Labs Beehive 1 System (drone-in-a-box solution).
This position is for an on-site employee for our Zurich office. You will be working closely with other mechanical engineers, robotics engineers, and electrical engineers to deliver models and drawings of mechanical components and assemblies, as well as test fixtures.
Responsibilities
- Use CAD (Solidworks) to design mechanical components, assemblies and test fixtures
- Conduct DFM and DFA review of mechanical parts and assemblies
- Generate mechanical drawings with proper geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) per ISO
- Fabricate and validate hardware prototypes and electromechanical systems by writing test plans, designing test fixtures and performing verification tests together with our production team
- Design thermal solutions, using a combination of CFD, FEA and thermal simulations and empirical tests
- Write and maintain production documentation such as SOPs
Skills and Qualifications
- Minimum Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical design in robotics, drones or a related field
- Skill to reduce complex systems into a simple design
- Show creativity and out-of-the-box thinking
- Experience with thermal systems analysis and design
- Experience with airflow simulations
- Extensive CAD experience with SolidWorks and ePDM
- Experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) per ISO 8015 and ISO 1101
- Experience with rapid prototyping methods such as 3D printing, vacuum casting and CNC machining
- Experience with DFM best practices for injection molding and sheet metal
- Excellent command of written and spoken English
- Organized, inquisitive, open-minded and willing to get your hands dirty
- Enjoy working in a team at a small company with a collaborative and dynamic environment
- A portfolio of past and current mechanical design projects is a major plus
