University of Bern and University Hospital Bern, Department of Diabetes, Endocrinology, Nutritional Medicine and Metabolism (UDEM)
Start of employment: 01.06.2024 or by agreement
Employment is fixed term for 1 year.
PrecisionLab, led by Prof. Jose Garcia-Tirado, aims to develop new technology for managing diabetes and metabolic disorders through novel digital interventions such as advanced decision-support tools and automated insulin delivery.

Project Manager

Job purpose and responsibilities

The Precision Metabolic Medicine Network (PM2N) is a joint venture between the University of Bern (Switzerland) and McGill University (Canada) to foster the implementation of advanced predictive digital tools and therapeutics for metabolic disorders. In this position, the selected person will oversee the planning, execution, and management of the network and take care of the nested academic projects and initiatives that contribute to advancing research, education, and collaboration within the involved academic community. The plan is to make this partnership sustainable and, in due time, to expand to other disease areas and health sciences.

Key responsibilities:

  • Plan and execute the network's core mission: Develop project plans, timelines, and milestones in collaboration with the network stakeholders. Plan, track, and document project meetings (minutes).
  • Resource management: Manage resources, including funding, personnel, and equipment to support the core network activities.
  • Stakeholder engagement: Facilitate communication and collaboration between partners and collaborators, academic institutions, funding agencies, and other stakeholders to align goals and expectations. Oversee the network's communication strategy through the dedicated website and additional communication channels.
  • Budget administration: Oversee project budgets and expenditures. Support the budgeting for project proposals.
  • Monitoring and evaluation: Monitor the progress and performance of the main initiatives within the network.
  • Documentation and reporting: Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including reports, proposals, and other relevant materials. Provide regular updates to the principal investigators.
  • Identify grant opportunities and collaborate with stakeholders in supporting grant applications.
  • Design and support the network's crowdfunding initiatives.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in management software such as Jira/Confluence or similar.
  • Familiarity with tools like MS Teams or Slack to establish timely stakeholder communication.
  • Outstanding presentation skills.
  • Seasoned in document management within OneDrive or Google Drive.
  • Familiarity with survey and research tools like RedCap and Qualtrics is an asset.
  • Fully proficient in written and spoken German and English. Proficiency in French is an asset.
  • Highly effective organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to plan, identify risks, anticipate issues and outcomes, and respond strategically, tactically, and operationally while balancing short-term and long-term objectives.

Experience:
  • A master's in Life Sciences, business administration, management, or a related field with at least 5 years of experience in similar roles. Years of experience may be considered in lieu of education.
  • Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and regulatory processes within Switzerland and the EU is an asset.
  • Experience in projects involving data sciences applied to health and medicine is an asset.
