John F. Kennedy International School is looking to appoint an outstanding, motivated and experienced Student Support Teacher for SEN and EAL for our students in Primary & Middle School. Experience of teaching students in Middle School is essential. The successful candidate would report directly to the Head of Middle School.

Main Responsibilities
As a support teacher, you'll need to:
• Support and teach either individuals or small groups of students within, or outside, the
class adapting teaching to individual needs.
• Be a proactive member of the Student Support Team, working in collaboration with the other
specialists.
• Prepare lessons and resources appropriate for each student for both individual and in class
push in support and pull-out lessons.
• Be an advocate for all SEN and EAL students and foster a clear vision for inclusive education.
• Develop IEPs/ILP’s for students termly and set appropriate goals with the head of department
and class and subject teachers.
• Attend termly progress meetings with parents, teachers, and students.
• Develop and adapt conventional teaching methods to meet the individual needs of students.
• Use special equipment, resources, and facilities, such as audiovisual materials and technology
that might improve access to learning.
• Collaborate with the class and subject teachers termly to define appropriate support resources
and assist with the planning for the student in relation to the IPC/IMYC curriculum.
• Assess and screen students who may display learning difficulties and liaise with colleagues to
identify individual students' special needs with appropriate initial assessments in school.
• Support and carry out whole school annual screening where required and manage data with the
Head of Student Support Services.
• Work closely with parents, boarding parents, guardians, and homeroom teachers to ensure
communication is timely and clear regarding student progress or support initiatives.
• Carry out administrative tasks, including updating and maintaining records of students'
progress on ISAMs and OneDrive, including data tracking, IEPs and learning plans and personal
information as required.
• Attend external trainings and workshops, keeping abreast of developments regarding inclusion
and offer to give in-service training on SEN/EAL and inclusive practices.
• Report daily to the Head of Student Support Services on all matters relating to student support
and attend all requested meetings by the head of department, Head of School and Director.
Student well-being
• Ensure safeguarding of students, reporting concerns to the appropriate member of staff.
• Communicate timely and clearly with the Student Support Team, Homeroom Teachers,
Boarding Team, on all wellbeing matters.
• Create a positive community of mutual respect and support.
• Read and adhere to the school policies of the school, including safeguarding and support the
ethos of the school by upholding the behaviour code, uniform regulations, and other
expectations.
• If required, act as a tutor to one of the boarding students, providing pastoral care as required.
• Be inclusive and supportive in and out of the classroom.
• Act as a positive role model for students, exemplifying a positive attitude.
Accountability
• Support student progress reported via Student Portfolio, Parent Teacher conferences and
written reports termly. Attend Student Open Houses and celebrations and other curriculum
events, including the parent information evenings.
• Plan for student assessment with clear assessment criteria and standards that have been
communicated to students and which link to IEYC/IPC/ IMYC outcomes.
• Ensure students are making good progress, documented through curriculum evidence, and take
appropriate action if a student is struggling.
• Ensure your personal beliefs are not infiltrating through your teaching.
• Actively participate in the school PDMP (Professional Development and Mentoring Programme)
cycle, showing and recording with your line manager regular PD as well as taking responsibility
for your own wellbeing and positive attitude towards your work.
• Reflect on your teaching and adapt as necessary in line with your mentoring and PDMP cycle.
• Ensuring that lessons, resources, and planning are transparent and available for your line
manager to always access.
• Absence is reported as per the school policy on absence and sickness and ensure class
planning is available at short notice.
Additional duties
• Take at least one after school activities class per week in either the Autumn or Spring Term.
• Attend all school functions as required by the head of department, head of school or director.
• Complete break and lunch duties as required, these may vary between winter and other terms.
• Participate in staff meetings, in service training and parents’ meetings as required, including
before the start of term and when term has finished.
• Contribute to school events and projects, assuming leadership where requested with colleagues
and initiating new ideas. This includes, but is not limited to, ski events in the winter term and
project-based events in the curriculum.
• Ensure that all deadlines are met, as published in the school calendar.
• For staff over 70% participate in the Autumn Excursion week and/or Spring Overnight trip if
required
• Provide cover as and when required by line manager.
Other
• Liaise and communicate effectively with your line manager, responding appropriately in person
and by email.
• Correct use of email and WhatsApp always, as per the communications policy.
• Demonstrate effective time and resource management.
• Work cooperatively with colleagues with respect and refrain from using language that might
cause harm both physical or emotional to colleagues at all times.
• Ensure that as a member of staff you set the highest standards (being punctual to lessons,
dealing with adults and students in a sensitive manner, being open to change, appropriate dress,
etc.)
• Positively embrace differing cultures and life experiences.
• Preserve and promote the good name of JFK in all dealings with the community and parents.
As per the Communications Policy, Code of Conduct and Safeguarding policies.
• Work effectively with other people by treating people respectfully and equally and always
developing good working relationships.
• Maintain confidentiality - never publicly relay information about the school until the director has
given permission.
• Manage resources effectively, demonstrating strong time management skills but also effective
management of equipment, ICT facilities and information.
• Always maintaining a professional and business-like appearance
• Ensure that all interaction with students and parents remains within the confines of an
appropriate professional relationship (including Facebook/Instagram pictures and friendships)
