Swiss Paraplegic Research (SPF) is an affiliate of the Swiss Paraplegic Foundation. The mission of SPF is sustainably improving the situation of people with spinal cord injury (SCI) through clinical and interdisciplinary research on a national and international level. Specific areas of its comprehensive research include functioning, movement and mobility, social integration, equality of opportunity, self-determination, quality of life, health services provision as well as morbidity and mortality. SPF is an extra-university research institution recognized and promoted by the Swiss federal government and the cantons and an active link to academic and industrial research and development at the national and international levels.

To support our research projects in the field of Therapies/Robotics, the Neuro-Musculoskeletal Functioning and Mobility Research Group is currently looking for a

PhD candidate 100%

People with a cervical spinal cord injury consider improvements in upper limb function as one of the most important factors in enhancing their quality of life. Specialized rehabilitation centers use innovative, assistive technology (e.g., robotic devices) to improve upper limb function in order to enhance the effects of functional training by providing increased therapy intensity and adaptive support in a controlled manner.

Your responsibility

  • Reviewing scientific literature
  • Developing a PhD research plan
  • Planning, managing and conducting data collection in a clinical research setting
  • Performing statistical analyses
  • Writing of ethical applications and scientific papers as part of the PhD thesis
  • Presenting study results at national and international conferences
  • Collaboration with an interdisciplinary team of researchers, therapists and clinicians in a clinical setting focused on the treatment of SCI
  • Regular participation in the University's graduate program

Your personality

  • Master degree in Movement Science, Health Science, Physiotherapy / Occupational Therapy or a closely related field
  • Experience in project planning and conduction
  • Experience or interest in clinical research
  • Affinity for technology and interest in the use of technology-supported therapy approaches
  • Strong interest or experience in statistical methods
  • Programming skills (e.g. Matlab, R) desired
  • Proficiency in German and English
  • Independent working attitude as well as the ability to work in a team
