Community Specialist, Civil Society

The World Economic Forum, committed to improving the state of the world, is the International Organization for Public-Private Cooperation.

The Forum engages the foremost political, business, and other leaders of society to shape global, regional and industry agendas.

Why are we recruiting

As a multi-stakeholder organization, the Forum engages civil society organizations (non-governmental organizations (NGOs), labour and trade unions, social movements, grassroots organizations, faith-based organizations and others) in driving system impact to address industry, regional and systemic issues.

The key role of the Civil Society Team is to orchestrate engagement of the world’s most influential and impactful civil society organizations as key stakeholders into and across the Forum’s Centres, Platforms, action initiatives, events and leadership communities.

The Community Specialist, Civil Society will be responsible for community engagement with key civil society actors across a variety of sectors and accelerating their impact across the Forum’s Centres, platforms and leadership communities.

Reporting Lines & Interactions:

The role will report to the Head of Civil Society Impact.  

Internally, this person will work with colleagues from across the organisation to ensure strong integration of civil society across the Forum’s Centres, initiatives and activities; and externally, with a broad range of stakeholders in civil society – with a strong focus on civil society leaders with the team’s Social Impact portfolio, including health and healthcare, digital/technology, social justice, human rights, social movements.

Main responsibilities:

  • Community management: Lead in the management and engagement of civil society constituents at the Forum by driving strategic value propositions for the world’s most renowned civil society organisations, particularly around the team’s Social Impact portfolio (health and healthcare, digital/technology, social justice, human rights, social movements)
  • Impact: Drive and support civil society impact across Forum’s value proposition
  • Communications: Support internal processes and communications related to civil society impact, additionally on behalf of team

The successful candidate will be assessed on:

  • Ability to identify and develop strategic relationships with key civil society organizations and consequently deepen their engagement in the Forum’s Centres and platforms, including through new value streams
  • Ability to identify, communicate and accelerate civil society impact across Forum’s value proposition
  • Fruitful coordination with internal teams to ensure delivery of value to portfolio of civil society stakeholders and tangible impact on the Forum’s missions in partnerships with Centre teams
  • Contributions to the design and delivery of the team’s deliverables and calendar of events

Preferred requirements and experience:

  • Broad intellectual background with a Master’s degree or equivalent
  • 4-6 years of relevant professional experience, ideally with experience in social impact and technology, and/or with related civil society actors
  • Excellent communication skills and command of English; fluency in another language is a plus
  • Ability to connect the dots in a complex, fast-paced matrix environment, with a strong service and entrepreneurial attitude and ability to navigate ambiguity
  • Experience in strategic partnerships and relationship management, including proven ability to engage at senior executive and C-suite level
  • Strong implementation and follow through skills
  • The candidate should be an outstanding collaborator.
