Job Description

To support this mission, Syngenta’s Hiring Team is seeking an Onsite, HSE Lead Münchwilen (f/m/d) in Münchwilen, Switzerland.
Job Purpose
Lead the strategic direction, governance model and organisational effectiveness of Health, Safety, Environment and Security (HSE) at the Münchwilen site. Ensure HSE requirements are embedded in operational processes, capital projects, change initiatives and leadership decision-making, going beyond compliance. Drive a culture of proactive risk ownership and visible safety leadership in a demanding piloting environment.
Key Accountabilities
- Lead and continuously improve the site-wide HSE management system for piloting, scale-up and synthesis activities.
- Govern the site’s key HSE risks, ensuring mitigation plans are owned, adequately resourced and delivered by line leadership.
- Ensure compliance with Swiss regulations, Syngenta Global HSE standards, security requirements and emergency-response protocols.
- Define clear HSE accountabilities, decision rights and escalation paths across line functions and project teams.
- Advise the Site Manager and Site Leadership Team on risk-based decisions, embedding HSE into project gates, change management, asset lifecycle processes and early-stage design.
- Translate global HSE initiatives into practical site implementation plans that support operational agility.
- Build a proactive, risk-aware safety culture through visible leadership, coaching, employee engagement and effective near-miss reporting.
- Lead investigations into actual and high-potential incidents, ensuring systemic learning and sustainable improvement.
- Lead, coach and develop a team of four HSE specialists, while strengthening HSE capability across the wider site organisation.
- Manage relationships with authorities, emergency services and external specialists; coordinate inspections, permits and regulatory reporting.
- Represent Münchwilen in Global HSE networks, sharing site experience, challenges and best practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemistry, Chemical/Process Engineering, Safety Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field.
- Preferably 8+ years’ HSE leadership experience in chemical, pharmaceutical, or fine-chemical manufacturing; R&D or pilot-plant experience.
- Proven ability to build HSE management systems, lead cultural change, and manage regulatory relationships.
- Fluent German and English; French is an advantage.
