As of August 1, 2026, the Department of Languages and Literatures of the University of Basel (English division, Prof. Miriam Locher) is seeking to fill a 60% PhD position in English linguistics. The position is intended for further academic qualification and is limited in duration (1+3 years).

Your position

Further academic qualification (PhD thesis and coursework)

Two hours of teaching per week in English and/or general linguistics

Administrative and co-teaching tasks

Student advising and supervision of written work in matters related to English linguistics

Your profile

excellent, linguistically oriented degree (MA) in the field of English linguistics

Independence, initiative, ability to work in a team, commitment to the general interests of the linguistics team

Willingness to be present in Basel for at least two full days
