Über den Job
About Us
Flying Teachers is a premier private language institution dedicated to providing exceptional and personalized language education. We believe in creating engaging, student-centred learning experiences that drive success. To further strengthen our academic leadership and operational efficiency, we are seeking a proactive and organized Assistant Head Teacher to join our team on a part-time basis.
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly organized and proactive Assistant Head Teacher to join our academic leadership team in Zurich. In this 40% on-site role, you will provide crucial support to the Head Teacher by taking ownership of operational tasks, preparatory academic work, and routine coordination. Your work will directly impact the quality of our English programs and the efficiency of the department.
While this is primarily an administrative and academic support role, there is a possibility to supplement your hours by teaching courses, should you wish to increase your workload beyond the 40% base.
Key Responsibilities
Academic Operations & Quality Assurance (Primary Focus)
- Regularly check that all teaching staff have submitted required course plans and lesson plans according to departmental deadlines. Proactively send reminders and follow up with teachers to ensure full compliance.
- Review weekly course feedback and evaluations, compiling a concise summary report for the Head Teacher, highlighting positive trends, flagged issues, and actionable insights.
- Create first drafts of worksheets, tests, and supplementary teaching materials based on the Head Teacher's specifications for final review and approval.
- Organize and maintain the digital resource library, creating an accessible index of lesson plans and materials for the teaching team.
- Format lesson plans, tests, reports, and the departmental newsletter to ensure consistency with brand templates and professional standards.
- Assist in maintaining and updating internal records and communication tools, such as Switchboard entries.
Recruitment, Coordination & Support (Secondary Focus)
- Review applicant CVs sent by HR, providing a ranked shortlist of 3-5 qualified candidates with brief notes on their suitability for teaching or CELTA positions.
- Handle client enquiries regarding Cambridge exams (dates, requirements, registration process). Register candidates with our external exam partner, ensuring accurate data submission and deadline compliance.
- Deputize for the Head Teacher in a limited capacity for specific, pre-defined tasks during her absence (e.g., answering enquiries, distributing key information, handling issues as they arise).
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum teaching qualification: CELTA (or equivalent accredited certificate).
- DELTA (Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) or working towards it is preferred.
- A Master's degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or Educational Leadership is an advantage.
- A minimum of 3-4 years of practical classroom experience post-certification.
- Proven experience in academic coordination, materials development, or a senior teacher role.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (C2 level).
- High proficiency with standard office and document formatting software (e.g., Microsoft Suite of applications).
Personal Attributes
- Meticulous attention to detail and a strong commitment to quality assurance.
- Proactive and resourceful, able to identify what needs to be done and take initiative within defined boundaries.
- Creative and passionate about contributing to effective teaching and learning.
- Reliable and a collaborative team player, able to build strong working relationships with the Head Teacher and teaching staff.
- Superb organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to work autonomously and manage multiple tasks.
What We Offer
- A focused, part-time leadership role with a clear impact on academic quality.
- A flexible schedule of 16.8 hours per week (on-site in Zurich).
- The possibility to supplement income with additional paid teaching hours.
- A creative and supportive work environment in a dynamic language school.
We kindly request that you submit your complete application documents (CV, cover letter, diplomas, certificates, references, and for non-Swiss nationals, a valid residence and work permit in Switzerland) via the registration button below.
