As a joint venture of the University of Basel and the University Hospitals Basel, the Department of Biomedicine (DBM) brings together basic and clinical scientists to advance the understanding of health and disease. We are home to more than 67 research groups and over 800 employees across six locations in the heart of Basel. Our collaborative and international environment fosters innovation, excellence, and impactful research. The Tumor Heterogeneity Metastasis and Resistance led by Prof. Mohamed Bentires-Alj, is looking for a Imaging Mass Cytometry specialist.
Join our community and help shape the future of biomedicine.
We are seeking a highly motivated histopathology and Imaging Mass Cytometry (IMC) specialist to join our multidisciplinary team at the interface of clinical research, biomedical imaging and personalized oncology. This position offers the opportunity to contribute directly to translational science and personalized cancer treatment decisions. You will be embedded in a dynamic, interdisciplinary team combining clinicians, cancer biologists, bioinformaticians, organoid experts and data scientists. We use state-of-the-art technologies such as image-based drug screening and imaging mass cytometry to inform clinical decision making for patients with advanced cancer.
Your position
As IMC Specialist and coordinator, you will be responsible for a full operational IMC pipeline to deliver high-dimensional spatial characterization of the tumor, directly informing therapy decisions in a clinical setting. Key responsibilities include:- Coordinate sample workflow: liaising with clinicians and pathologists.
- Handle FFPE sections in coordination with the Institute of Pathology.
- Design and optimize highplex IMC panels (35-40 markers each).
- Covalent conjugation of antibodies with metal isotopes and validation.
- Execute end-to-end IMC workflow.
- Acquire data on the Hyperion/IMC system and conduct quality controls and data pre-processing.
- Summarize and present actionable findings to tumor boards and multidisciplinary meetings.
- Maintain detailed documentation for all procedures and samples.
Your profile
- PhD degree or equivalent expertise in biology, histopathology, biomedical sciences, imaging, oncology, or other related fields.
- Hands-on experience with Imaging Mass Cytometry (IMC) or related high-plex tissue imaging technologies.
- Solid knowledge of cancer biology, tumor immune microenvironment and signaling pathways.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Excellent oral and written English communication skills; ability to present complex data clearly to clinical audiences (German is an asset but not required).
- Highly motivated and proactive mindset with strong team collaboration abilities.
- Critical, meticulous approach to experimental design, data quality, and result interpretation.
- Genuine interest in translational science and applying advanced technologies to improve patient care.
- The successful candidate will work closely with a data scientist. Interest for data analysis is a plus.
We offer you
A stimulating, challenging and interdisciplinary translational research environment, state-of-the-art technologies and attractive employment conditions. The DBM is an international institute pursuing basic, translational and clinical research, with access to cutting-edge core facilities and in the heart of multicultural city of Basel. Your position will be embedded in the lab of Prof. Bentires-Alj but you will work in a consortium working on different types of cancer.Lab website: https://bentireslab.org/')
