Design of membrane electrode assemblies for highperformance bipolar membrane co-electrolysis Your

The Paul Scherrer Institute PSI is the largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences within Switzerland. We perform cutting-edge research in the fields of future technologies, energy and climate, health innovation and fundamentals of nature. By performing fundamental and applied research, we work on sustainable solutions for major challenges facing society, science and economy. PSI is committed to the training of future generations. Therefore, about one quarter of our staff are post-docs, post-graduates or apprentices. Altogether, PSI employs 2200 people.

For the Electrochemistry Laboratory (LEC) we are looking for a

Your tasks

  • Develop novel membrane electrode assemblies (including the optimization of catalysts, ionomer and membranes) for the electroreduction of CO2 to CO in a bipolar membrane co-electrolyzer
  • Determine the electrochemial performance of this co-electrolyzer, including the online, quantitative analysis of the reaction products
  • Perform post-mortem and opernado characterization of the cell components to identify failure mechanisms and extend the device's service life
  • Share the results of these studies with project partners
  • Publish these results in well-regarded journals and present them in international conferences

Your profile

  • MSc and/or BSc degree in chemistry, materials science or related field
  • Good knowledge of electrochemistry
  • Proven problem-solving skills
  • Creative, hands-on personality
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
  • Well-developed communication skills, self-organization for periodic progress reporting and good command of the english language (spoken and written)
