DOCTORAL POSITION (RESEARCH ASSISTANT, 3-6 YRS) IN COMPUTATIONAL COMMUNICATION SCIENCE (PROF. DR. JING ZENG)

Your responsibilities

  • Conduct high-quality computational media and communication research.
  • Attend academic conferences and publish in academic journals in related areas.
  • Successfully complete your PhD within the appointment period.
  • Teach one class per semester relevant to your research interests in our BA/MA programs.
  • Organizational and administrative tasks.

Your profile

  • Master's degree in Communication Science, Computer Science, Data Science, Digital Humanities, or a closely related field.
  • Strong programming skills in R and/or Python.
  • Track record in computational research of digital media.
  • Relevant skills include Natural Language Processing (NLP), computer vision, network analysis, and audio signal processing, among other multimodal research approaches.
  • Experience or interests in researching visually-rich digital media platforms (e.g. TikTok, Instagram, YouTube) is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in English is mandatory for research and publication purposes. Experience in conducting cross-lingual and cross-cultural research is a plus.

What we offer

  • Duration: 3-year doctoral position (60 %, paid according to cantonal salary scheme). Contract can be extended by an additional 3 years.
  • Research focus: Computational communication research.
  • Start of Employment: Earliest August 1, 2024 or by agreement.
