Purpose of position:

As an AWS FinOps Engineer, you will play a crucial role in optimizing and managing the financial aspects of cloud operations on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) platform. This position requires a unique blend of technical expertise, financial acumen, and cloud management skills to ensure cost efficiency, budget adherence, and overall financial governance within the AWS environment.

Key Tasks:

  • Cost Optimization: analyze and optimize AWS resource utilization to maximize cost efficiency, implement and maintain cost monitoring tools and processes, collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for cost savings.
  • Budget Management: work closely with finance and IT teams to establish and manage cloud budgets, track and report on actual versus forecasted cloud spending, develop strategies to align cloud expenses with business priorities.
  • Financial Governance: establish and enforce financial governance policies for AWS usage, implement tagging strategies and resource allocation to track costs accurately, conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with financial policies.
  • Forecasting and Planning: collaborate with stakeholders to forecast future cloud usage and costs, develop financial models to support long-term planning and decision-making, provide insights and recommendations based on cost forecasts.
  • Cost Allocation and Showback/Chargeback: implement mechanisms for accurate cost allocation across different business units or projects, develop and maintain showback or chargeback models to transparently communicate costs to relevant stakeholders.
  • Automated Cost Controls: implement automation scripts and tools to enforce cost controls, monitor and adjust auto-scaling configurations to optimize resource provisioning.
  • Educational Outreach: conduct training sessions to educate teams on cost optimization best practices, promote a culture of financial responsibility and awareness within the organization.

Skills and expertise:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Finance, or related field.
  • Proven experience as a FinOps Engineer or similar role, with a focus on AWS.
  • In-depth knowledge of AWS services, pricing models, and billing mechanisms.
  • Strong financial acumen and understanding of IT cost structures.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) for automation.
  • Experience with cloud cost management tools and platforms.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with diverse teams.
  • Must be fluent in English
  • Certifications (Preferred): AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional, AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, FinOps Certified Practitioner
